Lindsay powers Ravens to win over Dalhousie
(HALIFAX, NS) — Carleton closed out the Thunder Selects Tournament with a decisive 59-44 consolation final victory over the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday. A strong first half showing by the Ravens coupled with an impressive output from third-year forward Heather Lindsay (Ottawa, ON) helped the team close out their east coast visit with a second consecutive win.
(HALIFAX, NS) — Carleton closed out the Thunder Selects Tournament with a decisive 59-44 consolation final victory over the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday. A strong first half showing by the Ravens coupled with an impressive output from third-year forward Heather Lindsay (Ottawa, ON) helped the team close out their east coast visit with a second consecutive win.
Lindsay added 23 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in twenty-eight minutes of floor time. In defeating the Tigers (1-2), Carleton (2-1) claimed fifth place overall in the fourth edition of the annual event.
For the third straight game, the Ravens won the opening quarter as they held Dalhousie to just 12 points on 4-15 shooting. Carleton fed the ball inside to Heather Lindsay as the 6-3 forward owned the post with an impressive 11 points to give her side an 18-12 advantage after one.
In the second quarter, Carleton's first-year guard Cynthia Dupont-Letourneau (Waterville, QC), who played well in the team's victory over Lakehead less than twenty-four hours earlier, chipped in with 7 points in the frame. The Tigers' shooting was abysmal in the second quarter, as they went 0-13 from the floor, leaving them trailing 34-18 at the break.
Dal's Tessa Stammberger scored 9 of her team-high 18 points in the in third to give the Tigers a fighting chance as they outscored Carleton 16-11 in the quarter. However, Carleton put away the Tigers in the fourth with a 14-10 scoreline to end the contest.
The Ravens shot 23-55 (41.8%) overall and won the battle of points in the paint, 30-14. Carleton received a generous contribution from the reserves as the bench poured in 25 points compared to Dalhousie's 10.
The Ravens will be back in action on January 16 when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees in a highly anticipated game between the OUA North rivals.
