OUA women's hockey returns to ice on October 10
Semifinal re-matches will highlight the opening month of the schedule with the Toronto Varsity Blues facing off against Laurier on November 7th.
HAMILTON - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced on Tuesday its league schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 women's hockey season.
Women''s hockey will open on Friday, October 10th with the Waterloo Warriors visiting the Windsor Lancers while six more games are scheduled a day later on October 11th to kick off the year.
The defending OUA champion Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks will be one of those six teams in play on October 11th with Laurier visiting the Windsor Lancers. A week later on October 18th, the Golden Hawks will host Nipissing in their home opener.
The much anticipated rematch of the 2014 OUA championship series will see the Queen's Gaels travel to Wilfrid Laurier on November 22. The Golden Hawks bested the Gaels 2-1 in the best of three championship series to earn a spot at the 2014 CIS championship. The rivalry between the two teams continues to grow with the Gaels and Laurier trading titles since 2011. The two teams will clash again on February 7th in Kingston, Ont.
Semifinal re-matches will highlight the opening month of the schedule with the Toronto Varsity Blues facing off against Laurier on November 7th. Laurier won that three game series 2-1. The Guelph Gryphons, who were the top team in the 2013-14 regular season, will aim to avenge their semifinal loss to Queen's on November 8th when they host the Gaels in Guelph, Ont. Last year's semifinal saw all three games won by the score of 2-1 with Queen's winning the deciding game.
The 2014-15 regular season concludes on Sunday February 15th with two games on tap with Guelph visiting Laurentian in Sudbury, Ont., and Brock facing Nipissing in North Bay, Ont.
The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs with the quarterfinal, best-of-three series kicking off on February 18th followed by two semifinal series beginning on February 25th.
The OUA championship presented by ArcelorMittal Dofasco will be played on March 7th, 2015 in a one game battle and hosted by the remaining team with the best record.
