ST. CATHARINES, Ont.- Jenny MacKnight tallied her second goal of the game just 13 seconds into the overtime period, and the Windsor Lancers women's hockey team defeated the Brock Badgers on Friday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
The victory moves Windsor (5-4-1) above the .500 mark and into sixth-place in the conference heading into Saturday's games. MacKnight's first of the night in the second period gave the women a 3-1 lead after Windsor goals from Erinn Noseworthy in the first and Candice Chevalier in the middle frame.
However, the Badgers came back to even the contest with markers in the second and third period, sending the game into overtime. It was there that MacKnight notched her team-leading eighth goal and 15th point of the year to put the Lancers back in the win column.
Chevalier had a two-point night with a goal and assist while Adalena Tridico chipped in with two helpers. Marissa Kozovski turned aside 27 of 30 shots for the victory.

Guelph, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team defeated the Windsor Lancers with a final score of 5-2 at the Fight for Kevin charity hockey game on Saturday. This puts the Gryphons to 8-2-0, dropping the Lancers to 5-5-1.
The Gryphon women's hockey team hosted the "Fight for Kevin" charity event today in support of Gryphon goalie Brooke Siddall's brother Kevin, who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lympohma Cancer.
The Gryphons dominated the game, keeping possession of the puck for the majority of the first period, putting ample pressure on the Lancer defence. The first scoring opportunity came from Brittany Crawford (Guelph, Ont.), who passed across in front of the net to Kandace Charbonneau (Guelph, Ont), but the timing was off and they were not able to shoot. The Gryphons would redeem themselves however, getting on the board first after a turnover in their end would allow them to take the puck back down to Windsor's end and set Katie Mora (Guelph, Ont.) up for a goal that would make it 1-0, with Emily Corbett (Toronto, Ont.) and Averi Nooren (Aylmer, Ont.) on the assists.
The Lancers would get the next scoring opportunity with a scrum in front of the net, but Gryphon goalie Brooke Siddall (Windsor, Ont.) was able to smother the puck quickly and keep them from doing anything else. It would be Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, Ont.) who would score next for Guelph, putting it right over the Lancer goalie's head to make it 2-0 for the Gryphons, with Christine Grant (Mississauga, Ont.) and Amanda Parkins (Kitchener, Ont.) on the assist. Less than two minutes later the Gryphons scored again, with Nooren putting it through the five hole from just outside the crease with Kelly Gribbons (Port Elgin, Ont.) and Mora on the assists.
The Lancers upped the intensity heading into the second period, however the Gryphons were able to maintain their lead. Guelph would be the first to score in the second period setting up early on with Christine Grant capitalizing on a scoring opportunity to make it 4-0, with Pinkerton and Parkins on the assists.
The Lancers were able to battle back and take advantage of their short possession of the puck, with Andrea Benac (Oakville, Ont.) scoring the first Windsor goal of the game from just outside the crease to make it 4-1, with Sloan Kudrinko (Ottawa, Ont.) and Bree Polci (London, Ont.) on the assists. The Gryphons were able to score again in the last half of the period with Brittany Crawford bringing the puck around the net, passing to Hillary Walsh (Nepean, Ont.) who was able to score from just outside of the crease to make it 5-1, with Charbonneau also on the assist.
The third period started with back and forth action, both teams battling to set up shooting opportunities and getting boxed out by the opposing defence. Katie Mora almost had a goal, looking for the top right hand corner of the net early on in the period, but it was stopped by Lancer goalie, Ingrid Sandven (Bergen, Norway). A Lancer power play after Pinkerton was called for tripping allowed the Windsor player Kayla Dodson (Windsor, Ont.) to score from the crease, with Adalena Tridico (Windsor, Ont.) and Jenny MacKnight (Regina, SK) on the assists. Although the Lancers were aggressive in the third period, they were not able to overtake the Gryphons and the final score was 5-2 for Guelph.
The Gryphons outscored and outshot the Windsor Lancers with a final count of 34-24 in favour of the Gryphons.

Waterloo 3 @ Nipissing 1
? There is no question the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team deserved better, unfortunately, effort, hard work and scoring chances don’t always equal a win.
And that was the case Saturday afternoon during the team’s first ever Pink The Rink game presented by True North Chevrolet, as the Lakers outshot and outchanced the visiting Waterloo Warriors but were dealt a 3-1 loss – their third in a row.
Laura McKenzie scored the lone goal for the Lakers on a great individual effort in the first period which put the Lakers up 1-0 until the early part of the second frame.
The Warriors scored to tie it up in the second and buried the winner midway through the third before adding an empty-netter with under a minute to go in the game.
Sabrina Picard made her way back into the net after missing a handful of games with an injury and played very well, making a number of good saves throughout the game and 21 in total.
The Lakers are back in action Sunday night when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Toronto 2 @ Queen’s 3
KINGSTON, Ont. (November 9, 2013) - Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored on the power play with 36 seconds remaining in the third to give the No. 3 Gaels a 3-2 win over Toronto on Saturday afternoon.
With the win Queen's now improves to 7-0-3 on the season for top spot in the OUA. Queen's has yet to lose a game in regulation this season.
McHaffie finished with a two point day for Queen's while Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) stopped 14 of 16 shots for the win.
After Taylor Day put the Varsity Blues up 1-0 early in the first period the Gaels quickly responed with a goal from Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) who has now scored a goal in four straight games.
In the second period Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Gaels a one goal advantage heading into the final frame.
Toronto used their power play to even the score at 2-2 on a goal from Stacey Oue at 9:15. Dodd-Moher held Toronto at bay and after a Varsity Blue penalty McHaffie sealed the win for Queen's on the power play in the final minute of the third.

York 0 @ UOIT 3
OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks looked dominant on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the York Lions 3-0 at the Campus Ice Centre.
Tori Campbell of Lethbridge, AB stopped all 24 York shots on net to earn her first career OUA shutout. Campbell has been impressive in her first year with the Ridgebacks as she has posted a 1.55 goals against average and .929 save percentage in eight conference games.
The Ridgebacks spread out their offensive production against York as they scored a goal in each period. Assistant captain Jaclyn Gibson (Cobourg, Ont.) led the way with power play goals in the first and third periods. In 10 games, Gibson has already set a career high in goals with six. She has added seven assists to her totals, ranking in her fourth in OUA scoring with 13 points.
Katie Dillon (Oshawa, Ont.) extended her point scoring streak to seven games as she recorded a goal and an assist. During the streak, which is currently the longest in the OUA, Dillon has scored three goals and six assists.
Also recording two points for UOIT was Jill Morillo (Whitby, Ont.), who picked up assists on both of Gibson’s power play goals. Rachel Budden (Richmond, BC) and Nicole LoPresti (Hamilton, Ont.) added single helpers for UOIT.
Megan Lee of York stopped 29 UOIT shots on goal. The Ridgebacks outshot York 32-24, while going 2-for-5 on the power play. UOIT’s penalty killing unit did not allow a goal on York’s two attempts.
UOIT is 6-4-0 to start the season and on a two-game winning streak. York is 3-5-1 and in ninth place in the OUA standings with seven points.
The win marked the Ridgebacks first on home ice, as they dropped their first three decisions at the Campus Ice Centre.

Laurier 7 @ Laurentian 2
The Laurentian Voyageurs Women’s Hockey team was facing off against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday at the Coppercliff Arena. While the women put in a good effort, they were unable to secure a win in their first game of the weekend, as the game ended 7-2 in favour of Laurier.
The Voyageurs started off the first period strong, and the possession was split evenly between both teams for the first part of the game. Laurier opened the scoring half way through the period, and netted their first at the 9:08 minute mark. From there the Voyageurs were able to keep up with the Hawks, however couldn’t stay out of the penalty box, taking four penalties throughout the first period. The period ended 1-0 in favour of the Hawks.
The second period saw many goals, as Laurier’s Kiviaho and Thomson netted one each, while Laurentian’s Julie Hebert put two up for her team. The Voyageurs were able to keep up with the Hawks’ intensity, and managed to stay out of the penalty box in the second period. The teams headed into intermission with the Hawks up by 3-2 heading into the last period of play.
Coming into the third period the Hawks elevate their level of play, and put out an effort that was unmatched by the Voyageurs. The Hawks extended their lead to five in the third, putting 4 more goals into the back of Laurentian’s net. The game ended 7-2 in favour of Laurier.

Western 3 @ Guelph 4
Guelph, Ont. (November 10, 2013) – The Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team capped off a 2-0 weekend Sunday with a 4-3 victory over the Western Mustangs at the Gryphon Centre. This puts the Gryphons atop the OUA standings with a 9-2-0 record and drops the Mustangs to 7-3-0.
Third year Jessica Pinkerton led the Gryphons with a pair of goals and an assist while third year goalie Stephanie Nehring made 15 saves in the victory. Pinkerton's two-goal effort lifts her to the top of the OUA scoring with nine goals on the season.
The Gryphons started the game strong, immediately finding ways to challenge Western goalie Kelly Campbell (St. Thomas, Ont.). In the opening minute Gryphon player Amanda Parkins would rifle one in the top corner to make it 1-0, with Christine Grant and Jessica Pinkerton on the assists. Western was trying to use their size to force Gryphon turnovers, but was unable to beat the Guelph defence during their own possessions, being consistently outskated. Western would not be able to take a shot on goal until the second half of the period, and would only manage four shots on goal at the end of the first.
Guelph would get on the board again after a power play goal by Jessica Pinkerton, after Western player Brianna Iazzolino (Thunder Bay, Ont.) was called for tripping at 11:11. A backhanded pass from Grant would allow Pinkerton to fire the puck in from just outside of the crease to make it 2-0 for the Gryphons, with Emily Corbett also on the assist. Western would not end the period with nothing, scoring in the last minute of the period. It would be a pass from Stacey Scott (London, Ont.) up to the crease to Michelle Saunders (Oakville, Ont.) who would tip the puck in to make it 2-1, with Cassidy Gosling (London, Ont.) also on the assist.
Western amped up their intensity in the second period, picking up the pace of the game. Stephanie Nehring was able to stop the onslaught of Western shots, and the Gryphon defense held strong beating the Mustangs on every single breakaway. A great slap shot from Rachael Cassidy at 12:06 after a pass from Corbett put the Gryphons up to 3-1 against the Mustangs. Western would come back after a pass from Marlowe Pecora (Sarnia, Ont.) to the front of the net had Natasha Panahi (Coquitlam, B.C.) guiding one in to make it 3-2 for the Gryphons at 16:52. Pinkerton would score her second goal of the night in the final minute of the second period from the side of the crease to make it 4-2 going into the third, with Parkins and Grant on the assists.
The third period started with back and forth action, each team setting up solid scoring opportunities. Western scored to get within a goal after Saunders tipped in a goal for her second of the game, with Madison Turk (Calgary, AB.) and Jessica Sorenson (Ingersoll, Ont.) on the assists. Guelph looked like they had a goal shortly after, but the scrum at the net was stopped when Campbell smothered the puck and stopped the play. It was an exciting final minute of play, with Western pulling their goalie in their last attempt to score one more and tie it up, but Guelph was able to keep the score at 4-3 to end the game.
The Gryphons outshot the Mustangs with a final count of 25-18 in favour of Guelph.

Ryerson 1 @ Queen’s 7
KINGSTON, Ont. (November 10, 2013) - The No. 3 Queen's Gaels downed the Ryerson Rams 7-1 on Sunday afternoon as Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) extended her goal scoring streak to five games and finished with five points in the game.
Griffin now has goals in each of her last five games and has also totalled 12 points during that same span. She finished with two goals and three helpers this afternoon.
Courtenay Jacklin (Regina) scored twice and added an assist with her first goal standing up as the game winner.
The Gaels got out to a commanding lead in the later half of the first period scoring four times then adding two more in the second before the Rams were finally able to solve Gaels starting netminder Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.).
Queen's added one more for good measure in the third period to finish with the 7-1 win.
The Gaels now improve to 8-0-3 on the season and sit in first place in the OUA.

Waterloo 2 Laurentian 3 (SO)
The Laurentian Voyageurs’ women’s hockey team took to the ice Sunday night at Countryside Arena, playing host to the visiting Waterloo Warriors. Though the Voyageurs had a slow start, they played smart, aggressive hockey to come back and win the game 3-2 in a shootout.
The Voyageurs came out tough, but were unable to create many scoring opportunities, being outshot 12 to 4 in the first period. The Warriors, sitting in eighth place with a 3-4-1 record, were able to get their offense going early. Carolyn Burke sailed one past Laurentian goalie Laura Deller off an assist from Stephanie Digness to put Waterloo up one at the end of the first period.
The Voyageurs regrouped during the first intermission and play remained predominantly in the Warriors’ end for the first few moments of the second period. A penalty in front of the Laurentian net, however, gave Warriors’ forward Marissa Redmond a penalty shot and opportunity to score. Though Laurentian’s Deller held her own and saved the shot, the Warriors capitalized on a penalty play moments later when Laurentian defense-woman Renee Leclair was in the box. Digness found the back of the net and increased the Warriors’ lead to 2-0. The Voyageurs battled back, and found their opportunity with just less than seven minutes to go in the second. Forward Mikayla Ferlaino drilled one past Warriors’ goaltender Allie Mitchell off the assist from Amanda Pereira. With the momentum shifting, the Voyageurs fought hard against the Warriors and nearly matched them shot for shot, taking nine shots compared to Waterloo’s 11.
Heading into the final period, the Voyageurs trailed the Warriors by only one goal. The blue and gold came out flying. Voyageurs’ Captain Julie Hebert nearly scored less than two minutes into the period but was overruled by a controversial call from the referees. The Voyageurs continued to fight, and in the last ten seconds of the game were rewarded when Jessica Staats capitalized on a power play and scored the tying goal.
The Voyageurs carried their momentum from the third period into overtime, dominating the extra minutes. A penalty by Hebert with 38 seconds remaining gave the Warriors the advantage, but the Voyageurs held on to send the game to a shootout. Laura Deller was perfect in the shootout, blocking shots from Redmond, Digness, and Rachel Marriott. While Hebert was unable to record a goal on Laurentian’s first attempt, forward Jessica Staats scored on Laurentian’s second attempt to win the game. With the win, the Voyageurs improve to 4-5-0.

Laurier 5 @ Nipissing 1
? A strong first period and the opening goal wasn’t enough for the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team to snap their losing streak, as the Laurier Golden Hawks scored five straight goals on their way to a 5-1 win Sunday night.
The Lakers have now lost four in a row and have only managed three goals in that span.
Jade Gauthier scored her team leading fourth goal of the season, which was the long marker for the Lakers who were out-shot 34-24 including 16-3 in the final period.
Jackie Rochefort was solid in net despite suffering the loss and allowing five goals.
The Lakers power play struggled, having a number of chances, but not being able to capitalize.
Local product Roby Degagne picked up two points for the Hawks, with a goal and an assist.
While the effort and hard work are there, the results are not, but the Lakers will get a chance to end their slide this weekend when they hit the road.

The Voyageurs were able to keep up with the Hawks’ intensity, and managed to stay out of the penalty box in the second period. The teams headed into intermission with the Hawks up by 3-2 heading into the last period of play.
Coming into the third period the Hawks elevate their level of play, and put out an effort that was unmatched by the Voyageurs. The Hawks extended their lead to five in the third, putting 4 more goals into the back of Laurentian’s net. The game ended 7-2 in favour of Laurier.

Western 3 @ Guelph 4
Guelph, Ont. (November 10, 2013) – The Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team capped off a 2-0 weekend Sunday with a 4-3 victory over the Western Mustangs at the Gryphon Centre. This puts the Gryphons atop the OUA standings with a 9-2-0 record and drops the Mustangs to 7-3-0.
Third year Jessica Pinkerton led the Gryphons with a pair of goals and an assist while third year goalie Stephanie Nehring made 15 saves in the victory. Pinkerton's two-goal effort lifts her to the top of the OUA scoring with nine goals on the season.
The Gryphons started the game strong, immediately finding ways to challenge Western goalie Kelly Campbell (St. Thomas, Ont.). In the opening minute Gryphon player Amanda Parkins would rifle one in the top corner to make it 1-0, with Christine Grant and Jessica Pinkerton on the assists. Western was trying to use their size to force Gryphon turnovers, but was unable to beat the Guelph defence during their own possessions, being consistently outskated. Western would not be able to take a shot on goal until the second half of the period, and would only manage four shots on goal at the end of the first.
Guelph would get on the board again after a power play goal by Jessica Pinkerton, after Western player Brianna Iazzolino (Thunder Bay, Ont.) was called for tripping at 11:11. A backhanded pass from Grant would allow Pinkerton to fire the puck in from just outside of the crease to make it 2-0 for the Gryphons, with Emily Corbett also on the assist. Western would not end the period with nothing, scoring in the last minute of the period. It would be a pass from Stacey Scott (London, Ont.) up to the crease to Michelle Saunders (Oakville, Ont.) who would tip the puck in to make it 2-1, with Cassidy Gosling (London, Ont.) also on the assist.
Western amped up their intensity in the second period, picking up the pace of the game. Stephanie Nehring was able to stop the onslaught of Western shots, and the Gryphon defense held strong beating the Mustangs on every single breakaway. A great slap shot from Rachael Cassidy at 12:06 after a pass from Corbett put the Gryphons up to 3-1 against the Mustangs. Western would come back after a pass from Marlowe Pecora (Sarnia, Ont.) to the front of the net had Natasha Panahi (Coquitlam, B.C.) guiding one in to make it 3-2 for the Gryphons at 16:52. Pinkerton would score her second goal of the night in the final minute of the second period from the side of the crease to make it 4-2 going into the third, with Parkins and Grant on the assists.
The third period started with back and forth action, each team setting up solid scoring opportunities. Western scored to get within a goal after Saunders tipped in a goal for her second of the game, with Madison Turk (Calgary, AB.) and Jessica Sorenson (Ingersoll, Ont.) on the assists. Guelph looked like they had a goal shortly after, but the scrum at the net was stopped when Campbell smothered the puck and stopped the play. It was an exciting final minute of play, with Western pulling their goalie in their last attempt to score one more and tie it up, but Guelph was able to keep the score at 4-3 to end the game.
The Gryphons outshot the Mustangs with a final count of 25-18 in favour of Guelph.

Ryerson 1 @ Queen’s 7
KINGSTON, Ont. (November 10, 2013) - The No. 3 Queen's Gaels downed the Ryerson Rams 7-1 on Sunday afternoon as Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) extended her goal scoring streak to five games and finished with five points in the game.
Griffin now has goals in each of her last five games and has also totalled 12 points during that same span. She finished with two goals and three helpers this afternoon.
Courtenay Jacklin (Regina) scored twice and added an assist with her first goal standing up as the game winner.
The Gaels got out to a commanding lead in the later half of the first period scoring four times then adding two more in the second before the Rams were finally able to solve Gaels starting netminder Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.).
Queen's added one more for good measure in the third period to finish with the 7-1 win.
The Gaels now improve to 8-0-3 on the season and sit in first place in the OUA.

Waterloo 2 Laurentian 3 (SO)
The Laurentian Voyageurs’ women’s hockey team took to the ice Sunday night at Countryside Arena, playing host to the visiting Waterloo Warriors. Though the Voyageurs had a slow start, they played smart, aggressive hockey to come back and win the game 3-2 in a shootout.
The Voyageurs came out tough, but were unable to create many scoring opportunities, being outshot 12 to 4 in the first period. The Warriors, sitting in eighth place with a 3-4-1 record, were able to get their offense going early. Carolyn Burke sailed one past Laurentian goalie Laura Deller off an assist from Stephanie Digness to put Waterloo up one at the end of the first period.
The Voyageurs regrouped during the first intermission and play remained predominantly in the Warriors’ end for the first few moments of the second period. A penalty in front of the Laurentian net, however, gave Warriors’ forward Marissa Redmond a penalty shot and opportunity to score. Though Laurentian’s Deller held her own and saved the shot, the Warriors capitalized on a penalty play moments later when Laurentian defense-woman Renee Leclair was in the box. Digness found the back of the net and increased the Warriors’ lead to 2-0. The Voyageurs battled back, and found their opportunity with just less than seven minutes to go in the second. Forward Mikayla Ferlaino drilled one past Warriors’ goaltender Allie Mitchell off the assist from Amanda Pereira. With the momentum shifting, the Voyageurs fought hard against the Warriors and nearly matched them shot for shot, taking nine shots compared to Waterloo’s 11.
Heading into the final period, the Voyageurs trailed the Warriors by only one goal. The blue and gold came out flying. Voyageurs’ Captain Julie Hebert nearly scored less than two minutes into the period but was overruled by a controversial call from the referees. The Voyageurs continued to fight, and in the last ten seconds of the game were rewarded when Jessica Staats capitalized on a power play and scored the tying goal.
The Voyageurs carried their momentum from the third period into overtime, dominating the extra minutes. A penalty by Hebert with 38 seconds remaining gave the Warriors the advantage, but the Voyageurs held on to send the game to a shootout. Laura Deller was perfect in the shootout, blocking shots from Redmond, Digness, and Rachel Marriott. While Hebert was unable to record a goal on Laurentian’s first attempt, forward Jessica Staats scored on Laurentian’s second attempt to win the game. With the win, the Voyageurs improve to 4-5-0.

Laurier 5 @ Nipissing 1
? A strong first period and the opening goal wasn’t enough for the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team to snap their losing streak, as the Laurier Golden Hawks scored five straight goals on their way to a 5-1 win Sunday night.
The Lakers have now lost four in a row and have only managed three goals in that span.
Jade Gauthier scored her team leading fourth goal of the season, which was the long marker for the Lakers who were out-shot 34-24 including 16-3 in the final period.
Jackie Rochefort was solid in net despite suffering the loss and allowing five goals.
The Lakers power play struggled, having a number of chances, but not being able to capitalize.
Local product Roby Degagne picked up two points for the Hawks, with a goal and an assist.
While the effort and hard work are there, the results are not, but the Lakers will get a chance to end their slide this weekend when they hit the road.
