GUELPH AND OTTAWA TAKE CONVINCING WINS OVER QUEEN'S AND RYERSON
The Guelph Gryphon women's volleyball team (4-5) defeated the Queens Golden Gaels (2-5), 3-1 on Friday night at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre in Guelph, Ont. Set scores were (25-16, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16).
The Gryphons came ready to play from the first point and used a balanced attack to jump out to a 16-9 lead in set one. Steady play the rest of the way finished with a 25-16 victory. A six point run of serves from Sylvie DeBrabandere and some solid defense allowed Guelph to take a commanding 12-3 lead early in the second set and play comfortably for a 25-19 win.
The third set was back and forth between the 2 teams until the second technical time out with neither team able to seize control. Queen's came to life late in the set to win 25-20. The fourth set saw another quick Guelph lead built to a 19-12 advantage. From there Guelph sided out to take the set and the match with a 25-16 win.
On the stat sheet, the Gryphons were led by Kendall Milne with 17 points (16 kills, 1 ace) and Kylen Van Osch with 12 points (11 kills, 1 ace). Guelph's bench turned in solid contributions from Kalie Gies , Ali Taylor , Sarah Baxter , and Claire Sandor.
Ottawa 3, Ryerson 0
Christine Lamey had 14 kills and six digs as the uOttawa Gee-Gees bent but didn't break in a three-game sweep of Ryerson Saturday afternoon.
Lamey, a fourth-year Ottawa native, moved up to fourth-place in Canada with 125 kills following a 25-20, 25-20, and 25-21 win to give the Gee-Gees a 7-2 record and keep pace with Toronto atop the OUA east.
Lindsay Franco had six kills to pace Ryerson, which fell to 3-7.
