OUA BY THE NUMBERS

HAMILTON, Ont. - A weekly look at stats and figures from around Ontario University Athletics (OUA).

205 – The number of yards of offence accumulated by York Lions running back Kyle Exume (Whitby, Ont.) in a 47-36 win over Ottawa. The fifth-year player rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns, plus caught  two passes for 25 yards. The 180 yards on the ground was the highest total in the CIS this season. Exume’s big day earned him OUA offensive player of the week, Pioneer Energy OUA male athlete of the week and CIS offensive player of the week honours.

30 – Points scored by Guelph’s Brittany Benn (Napanee, Ont.) through two games in OUA women’s rugby. The fifth-year centre counted three tries in each of her teams wins; a 53-8 win over McMaster, and a 91-0 victory over Laurier.

38 – Points scored by Brock Badgers rugby player Zack Lamacraft (Pickering, Ont.) through two games. The fifth-year fly half and kicker opened the season converting three tries and adding a penalty goal in a 39-15 win over RMC. Lamacraft then set a career high with 29 points, including a Brock-record 12 converts, one try and one penalty goal, in a shutout win over Toronto.

4 – The number of players tied for the lead in OUA women’s soccer scoring, and the number of goals each of the tied players have through two weeks of the season. The four players include Pioneer Energy OUA female athlete of the Week Julia Francki (Orleans, Ont.) from the Ottawa Gee-Gees, her teammate Vanessa MacMillan (Ottawa), Laurentian’s Lisa Watson (Newmarket, Ont.) and Laurier forward Emily Brown (Waterloo, Ont.).

11 – The number of strikeouts thrown by Toronto Varsity Blues pitcher Drew Taylor (Toronto) in 11 innings over two starts in the opening week of the OUA baseball season. The veteran righty threw five innings, striking out six in a win over McMaster to open the season. Taylor then followed that performance with a six-inning, five-strikeout effort in a 3-0 win over Laurier, allowing only two hits.

2003 – The last year that the Toronto Varsity Blues women’s rugby team earned a win over the Laurier Golden Hawks after picking up a 35-15 win last week. Toronto was paced by 2011 OUA Russell division MVP Karla Telidetzki (Edmonton) who counted three first-tries, while adding one more late in the second half.

3 – The number of consecutive games with a goal by Ryerson forward Armin Tankovic (Mississauga, Ont.).  The fourth year player has registered a goal in each of the Rams three games last week; a 3-0 win over Trent, a 1-1 draw with Queen’s and a 2-0 win over RMC. Tankovic, who has helped propel the Rams to a tie for second in to OUA east division two weeks into the season, sits in a tie for third in OUA scoring.

7 – The ranking last week of the Laurier Golden Hawks women’s soccer team, and the number of goals they scored against the Brock Badgers in week two action. The Golden Hawks added a 2-0 win over Waterloo to help propel them to the No. 6 ranking in this week’s poll.  Laurier was led by Julie Maheu (Oakville, Ont.), who had a goal in each game and a team high eight shots on goal over the two contests.
