OUA BY THE NUMBERS
5 – The number of goals scored by Laurier’s Emily Brown (Waterloo, Ont.) in two Golden Hawk wins over the weekend. Brown scored both her team’s goals in a 2-1 win over Western, and followed that up with a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Windsor. For her efforts she was named Pioneer OUA female athlete of the week. Brown now has nine goals on the season, tops in both OUA and CIS.
4 – The number of goals scored by York Lions rookie soccer player Marc Anthony Kaye (Toronto) in two weekend wins. Kaye scored all three goals in a 3-0 win over the Guelph Gryphons before adding a single marker in a 6-0 defeat of the Brock Badgers. Kaye’s impressive weekend performance earned him Pioneer OUA male athlete of the week honours.
79 – The score posted by Carleton Raven’s golfer Samantha Coates (Kanata, Ont.) in topping the women’s field at the Queen’s Invitational Golf tournament. The third-year neuroscience student will look to lead a very young Carleton team into the OUA golf championships October 14-16 at the Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo, Ont.
59 – The amount of career field goals made by Ottawa Gee-Gees fifth-year kicker Matthew Falvo after making three kicks in Saturday’s loss to McMaster. The Welland, Ont. native now holds the Gee-Gees record for career field goals made and has a chance at the OUA record of 70 with five games remaining in his OUA career.
3 – The number of Western Mustang women who have earned a gold medal at the McGill Open cross country event over the past 21 years after Amanda Truelove (Barrie, Ont.) took home the win on Saturday. Truelove set a Western record of 14:09 over the 4-kilometre Mount Royal Park course in Montreal. Her result powered her Mustang women’s teams to a second place finish at the event, behind the host McGill Martlets.
.500 – The batting average for Brock Badgers first baseman Cameron Graham (Sarnia, Ont.) after going 7-for-14 in five OUA games last week. In the five games last week, all wins, Graham had three multi-hit contests and picked up four runs batted in, seven runs scored, three walks and one double. Graham is now 12-for-24 on the season, good enough for second in the OUA.
3 – The number of goals allowed by the Waterloo Warriors field hockey squad in three games over the weekend. The Warriors, led by veteran midfielder Jessana Wartman (Cambridge, Ont.), allowed two goals in a loss to the defending OUA champion Toronto Varsity Blues before earning a 4-0 shutout over McGill and playing to a 1-1 tie with the Guelph Gryphons. Wartman also added one goal and one assist on the weekend to add to her stellar defensive performance.
172 – The number of receiving yards by Waterloo Warriors receiver Nick Anapolsky (Guelph, Ont.) in his team’s loss at the hands of the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday. Anapolsky collected seven catches, and scored his team’s only two touchdowns. He currently sits third in the OUA in receiving yards with 375 through three games.
