Brock women's curling wins Trent Bonspiel, Men place second
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Brock University men's and women's curling teams opened their regular season at the Trent University Bonspiel. The Brock women placed first overall and the men took home second place.
The Brock women, consisting of skip Erin Macaulay, Terri Weeks, Samantha Morris, Danielle Robinson and Joanna Francolini finished with a 5-1 overall record to capture gold. They dropped their opening draw to Laurier JV by the score of 6-3 and then posted five straight victories over Queen's, Laurier Freshmen, UOIT, Trent, and Laurier JV in the finals.
The Brock men, consisting of skip Eric Bradey, Jonah Mondloch, Ryan Brown and Jamie Waters posted a 4-2 overall record with victories over Carleton, Queen's, UOIT and Trent. Both their losses came against Laurier by scores of 6-5 in an extra end in Draw 3 and 8-2 in the finals.

Golden Hawk men capture gold at Trent Invitational
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (November 24, 2014) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's varsity curling team got off to a perfect start in their 2014-15 season this past weekend as they won gold at the Trent Invitational at the Peterborough Curling Club.
Led by skip Aaron Squires of St. Thomas, Ont., the purple and gold put together an unblemished 5-0 record in round robin play. Competing against Queen's, UOIT, Brock, Trent and Carleton, the Hawks outscored their opposition 40-18 in their opening five games, putting them into the finals against the Badgers.
In what was another dominant performance in the gold medal game, Laurier defeated Brock 8-2 in just four ends to cap off a perfect weekend.
While the varsity women's team didn't compete at the event, Laurier was represented in women's play by both the junior varsity squad and the freshmen women's team.
Competing against the varsity clubs from Brock, Queen's, UOIT and Trent, the Hawks junior varsity team, skipped by Kirsten Marshall of Toronto, ran the table in round robin play, posting a perfect 5-0 mark to put them in the gold medal final.
However, the Hawks came up just short against the Badgers in the final and settled for a well-earned silver medal.
As for the freshmen team, the group, skipped by Leah Will of Janetville, Ont., they went 2-3 in the round robin to reach the bronze medal game. In a rematch against Trent, who had defeated them earlier in the weekend, the purple and gold came out on top to secure a silver/bronze finish for Laurier.
The next action for Laurier will come at the Brock Invitational which takes place the weekend of January 17 and 18 in St. Catharines.

Ridgebacks finish third, fifth at Trent bonspiel
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The UOIT men's and women's curling teams returned from their opening bonspiel of the season on Nov. 22-23 with some great experience.
The men's team finished third in the two-day event with a 2-3 record. They defeated Carleton 6-1 and Queen's 6-2.
Their losses came to Brock (6-5), Trent (8-4) and Laurier (10-1).
On the women's side the Ridgebacks went 1-4.
They defeated Queen's 9-1 in their lone victory.
Their closest loss was 5-4 to the four-time CIS champion Laurier Golden Hawks. The Ridgebacks lost a pair of games 6-4 to Brock and Trent, the Laurier JV team defeated them in their other game.
