    FOUR TEAMS HEADING TO HALIFAX

The Ottawa Gee-Gees booked their ticket to Halifax Saturday night defeating the tenth-ranked York Lions, 79-67, to mark their first appearance at the CIS championship since 1993. Despite being outrebounded 39-24 and giving up 21 offensive rebounds, Ottawa prevailed, giving fourth-year head coach Dave DeAveiro his first trip to Halifax.

The Gee-Gees closed out the first half with a 23-6 run, before watching York scored the first five points of the second half. In the two regular season meetings between the two teams, York had battled back from double digit leads to win both contests. But it wasn't the case Saturday as Ottawa's hot shooting of 52% would not be denied.

Gregory Sam led all scorers with 22 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, for Ottawa. Fourth-year guard Marko Jovic added 18.

For the Lions, Ruach, Branislav Misovic and OUA East first team all-star Jordan Foebel scored 16. OUA East Player of the Year Dan Eves was held to just three points, on 1-of-12 shooting, 16 below his season average.

    CARLETON WINS BIG OVER TORONTO
The No. 1 Carleton Ravens earned their third straight trip to Halifax with a convincing 85-49 win over the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues, Saturday night.

In the early going, Toronto led 10-7, before Carleton called a timeout, which led to an 11-0 run and cruised into halftime holding a 53-24 advantage.

OUA East first team all-star Mike Smart's 23 points and seven assists led the Raven charge, while OUA East all-rookie team member Aaron Doornekamp and Jean-Emmanuel Jean Marie scored 14 apiece.

Mike Williams led the Blues with 15 points and seven rebounds, before fouling out.

With the victory, Carleton extended its OUA/CIS regular and post-season winning streak to 73 straight games and its home OUA regular and post-season winning streak to 49 straight games. The Ravens will host their cross-town rivals, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, in the all-Ottawa OUA East final next Saturday night.

    WATERLOO DOWNS LAKEHEAD
Four Waterloo Warriors reached double figures as the seventh-ranked team in Canada defeated the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves, 78-65, to earn a berth to the CIS championship in Halifax. For the Warriors, it is their first trip since 1998.

The Warriors held a 41-31 lead at the half, as both teams shot over 50% in the first stanza. Lakehead would get within seven on several occassions, but Waterloo continually responded before sealing the victory.

OUA West all-star Graham Jarman scored 22 points, on 7-of-13 shooting, while teammate Andrew Coatsworth scored 15, on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Coatsworth also picked up a team-high 7 rebounds.

For Lakehead, OUA leading scorer and first team all-star Kiraan Posey netted 22. E.L. Adams added 16, while Matthew Verboom recorded a double-double for 10 points and 10 rebounds.

    BROCK THUMPS LAURIER
The Brock Badgers, ranked second in the country, ensure their second straight trip to Halifax Saturday, defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks, 93-61.

Brock, who have won 11 in a row, shot an incredible 71% (22-of-31) in the first half, including nine three-pointers to take a convincing 55-35 lead at the break.

OUA West second team all-star Brad Rootes had a double-double on the stat sheet after the first half. The second-year point guard, recorded 10 points and 10 assists, before finshing the game with 14 points and 12 helpers after just six minutes of court time in the second half.

Badger Morgan Fairweather led all scorers with 23 points, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. OUA West first team all-star Kevin French added 18.

For the Golden Hawks, Bert Riviere scored 13, with OUA West all-rookie team member Matthew Walker added 12.

Brock now travels to Waterloo Saturday to take on the Warriors in the OUA West final.
