PIONEER PETROLEUMS OUA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
HAMILTON, Ont. – The following student-athletes have been named Pioneer Petroleums Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for the period ending September 6, 2010.
Each Pioneer Petroleums OUA Athlete of the Week will receive a $25 gift card and a dri-fit T-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Petroleums.
MALE: Eric Amato, Western Mustangs, Men’s Soccer
Eric Amato of Toronto scored both game-winning goals as Western's men's soccer team won a pair of games by 1-0 scores in the opening weekend of OUA soccer action. The Mustangs edged host McMaster on Saturday with a 1-0 victory on Amato's game-winning goal in the 78th minute. The next day, Western won another on the road, 1-0 over Guelph, with Amato again providing the scoring heroics in the second half on his only shot of the game in the 55th minute.
FEMALE: Jacqueline Tessier, Queen’s Gaels, Women’s Soccer
Jacqueline Tessier of Peterborough, Ont., had an outstanding weekend to open the 2010 women’s soccer season. The second year music major scored six times, including both game winning goals, as the Gaels went 2-0 against Carleton and Trent. Tessier opened scoring against the Ravens on Saturday afternoon and scored five of the Gaels first seven goals in a 9-1 victory over the Excalibur on Sunday.
