M-RUGBY ROUNDUP: Convincing victories in all four games
In their first game of the 2010 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season, the McMaster Marauders defeated the Guelph Gryphons by 21 points (26-5) on the Back 10 Field.
Four Marauders, rookie Andrew Ferguson (Mississauga, Ont.), Shane Stratton (Mississauga, Ont.), Grant Schneider (Oakville, Ont.), and Richard Andrews (Mississauga, Ont.), all scored tries for the Marauders. Third year commerce student Timothy Doucette (Fredricton, N.B.) was McMaster’s scoring leader as he made good on three conversions for six points.
Thomas Sobotka’s (Mississauga, Ont.) try was the only scoring Guelph could muster in the contest.

Third year standout Richard Lebel of Waterloo scored two tries and added three converts (16 points) to lead his Warriors to a 61-0 victory over the RMC Paladins in front of 2,500 plus boisterous fans. Eight different Warriors scored tries to give the black and gold their first win of the 2010 OUA (Ontario University Athletics) season.
The Warriors jumped out of the gate with three quick tries and never looked back controlling the play from start to finish. Give credit to the Paladins who fielded a young and inexperienced roster and held their own against a promising Warrior squad.
Lebel who played for Canada at the World University Rugby Sevens Championship displayed his speed and skill with many open field runs. Lebel will be a tough player to contain on a weekly basis playing for the Warriors. Rookie Hanser Ulrik of Denmark and 8-man Zach Bentley (Picton, Ont.) each scored two tries of their own. Capping off the scoring with one try each were flanker Ben Vandenberg (Centreville, Ont.), Blake Smith (Caledon, Ont.), Dan Snider (Waterloo, Ont.), Caleb Ashley (New Dundee, Ont.) and Evan Pitcher (Ajax, Ont.)

Toronto Varsity Blues @ Brock Badgers
Brock Badgers men's rugby (1-0 OUA) opened the season in convincing fashion beating the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 50-12. The Badgers scored early and often defeating the Blues with Sam Rimmer (Cheltenham, Ont.) leading the way.
The Badgers poured on the pressure in the first half picking up four tries in the first half and lead 22-0 after forty minutes. The scoring continued in the second half and a comfortable lead allowed Badgers head coach Les Gilson to utilize his bench. The team chipped in 28 points in the second half but also allowed Toronto to score two tries late in the contest.
Rimmer contributed three tries and kicked 5 converts to notch 25 points for Brock. The Badgers also received two tries from Connor Fitzsimmons (Markham, Ont.), and one each from Mike Berry (Brockville, Ont.), Chris Feasby (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Dylan Mundy (Sutton, Ont.).

The Queen's Gaels men's rugby team started their season off in Waterloo to take on the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and emerged the winners by a 54-8 margin.
The Gaels received an all around team effort as six different players put up points. Queen's was led by Matt Kelly of Toronto who had two tries, and Dan Moor also of Toronto who added a try of his own and scored seven converts. The Gaels also had tries scored by Burke MacDonald of Cornwall, Ont., Shane Baddeley of Peterborough, Ont., Myles Dingwall of Ottawa, Graham Turner of Oakville, Ont., and Mike Wong of Barrie, Ont.
This was a very solid team victory with eight players making their OUA debuts. The Gaels have now won four straight against Laurier and twice in the last two seasons after last year's 74-8 victory at Kingston Field over the Golden Hawks.
