McMaster Marauders @ Laurier Golden Hawks
The McMaster Marauders men’s rugby team continued their undefeated streak Friday night with a 25-19 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo.
Laurier earned an early lead in the match, but couldn't sustain their defence. McMaster caught a break late in the second half to score a try and covert to seal the victory.
Andrew Ferguson (Mississauga, Ont.) led McMaster in points with a try and two converts, while Davor Stojanov (Stoney Creek, Ont.) and Matthew MacLean (Uxbridge, Ont.) added a try each.
Ferguson is currently McMaster's scoring leader with a total of 29 in his five games this season. His total places him fourth in OUA scoring as well.
Mac jumps to 5-0-1 this season while the Golden Hawks (0-4) continue to search for their first win.
Queen’s Gaels @ Guelph Gryphons
Daniel Moor of Toronto scored 18 points as the Queen's men's rugby team shutout the Guelph Gryphons 28-0 Friday night.
Moor opened the scoring for the Gaels in the first half, scoring his first of two trys and following it with a convert to stake Queen's to a 7-0 lead.
With the Gryphons holding Queen's to just Moor's seven first half points thanks to a very strong effort, the Gaels came out determined to extend their lead in the second half. Matthew Wolfe of Toronto, and Dylan McTavish of Mississauga, Ont., joined Moor to give the Gaels three scores in the half to blow the game open for Queen's, sending them to their third victory of the season.
Defensively, the game was perhaps the Gaels strongest of the season, thanks to great efforts from McTavish and Ryan Guichon. Team captain Henry McQueen of Vancouver, also had one of his best performances of the year.
Waterloo Warriors @ Brock Badgers
The Brock University men's rugby team improved to 3-0-1 on the season as they defeated the Waterloo Warriors by the score of 29-5 Saturday afternoon in front of a hometown crowd of 536.
In his return to the Brock lineup, Rory McDonell (Brantford, Ont.) recorded nine points connecting on three converts and a nice drop kick on the run which sailed down the middle of the posts midway through the second half.
Ty Riddick (Oshawa, Ont.) led all scorers with 10 points including his third and fourth tries of the season. Scott Radford (Scarborough, Ont.) and Dylan Mundy (Sutton, Ont.) rounded out the Badgers scoring each adding single tries in the victory.
Alexander Stanwyk scored Waterloo's lone try in the loss.
