McMaster Marauders @ RMC Paladins
In their second game of the OUA season, first year business student Chris Gordon (Pickering, Ont.) scored 15 points from three tries to defeat RMC 43-10 on Navy Blue Field in Kingston.
The win moves McMaster to 2-0 this season after their 26-5 victory over Guelph on Saturday.
Third year commerce student Tim Doucette (Fredricton, N.B.) also had a strong game for the Maroon after scoring a try and kicking four conversions for 13 points. Doucette currently leads the team and is third in league scoring with 19 points overall.
Additionally for McMaster, Owen Smith (Trenton, Ont.), Shane Stratton (Mississauga, Ont.) and John Williams (Stoney Creek, Ont.) all scored a try each.
Clarke O’Reilly (Kitchener, Ont.) and Max Rosenkranz (Beamsville, Ont.) were the only ones who crossed the line for RMC.
The Marauders remain on the road this weekend and will play the Warriors in Waterloo at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19.
Waterloo Warriors @ Toronto Blues
The Warriors went 2-0 on the season merely defeating the Toronto Varsity Blues 20-15 on Wednesday evening. The Warriors looked tired in their second game in five days but managed to battle through and pick up five crucial points in the standings.
Waterloo Athlete of the week Richard Lebel (Waterloo, Ont.) scored his third try of the season. Zach Bentley (Picton, Ont.), Zach Bogdon (Cambridge, Ont.) and Adam Fitzpatrick (Waterloo, Ont.) each added a try. Scoring for the Blues was Haddon Murray (Toronto, Ont.) with two tries and Alex Dwhytie (Etobicoke, Ont.) adding one.
Toronto controlled the ball and frustrated the Warriors who were forced to play solid defence most of the game. The Warriors committed 22 ball handling errors, a big disappointment after the dominating performance over RMC in their opener.
The undefeated Warriors (2-0) hopes to clean up their offensive game on Sunday, September 19 as they play host to the also undefeated McMaster Marauders (2-0) at 1:00 pm. The Marauders are also coming off a convincing win over RMC. The Blues (0-2) host the physical Queen's Gales (1-0).
Brock Badgers @ Laurier Golden Hawks
The Brock University men's rugby team (2-0 OUA) won their second straight as they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks by the score of 28-19 on the road Wednesday night.
Leading the Badgers offense for the second straight game was Samuel Rimmer (Cheltenham, Ont.) who recorded 13 points including one try, one convert and two penalty goals. Rimmer currently leads the OUA with 38 points in two games.
Rookie Dylan Mundy (Sutton, Ont.) registered his second try of the season while Ty Riddick (Oshawa, Ont.) and Michael Lambert (Goderich, Ont.) rounded out the scoring each adding a single try in the victory.
The Badgers next action is September 25th at 3:00 pm when they host OUA divisional rival McMaster Marauders at the Brock Rugby Field
Western Mustangs @ Guelph Gryphons
The Western Mustangs defence held its line while three different players factored in the scoring in a 19-0 shutout over the Guelph Gryphons in men's rugby on Wednesday Sept. 15.
Sophomore Tom Bridger of Victoria, B.C., scored a try and added a pair of converts, while freshman James Ojo and senior Michael Talbot of Lucan, Ont., each added one try.
The Mustangs (1-0) host McMaster on Sunday Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at the UWO Rugby Field (Practice Field #2).
