Brock Badgers @ Queen’s Gaels
David Worsley of Vancouver nailed two penalty goals as the Queen's Gaels (6-2) edged the Brock Badgers (5-2) by a score of 16-15.
Brock played the Gaels close all game as their two tries (scored by Matthew Alexander and Benjamyn Harmer) were accompanied by Samuel Rimmer's five points (one conversion and one penalty) to give the Badgers their 15 points on the afternoon.
Worsley was the Gaels leading scorer as his six points were the difference for Queen's in the contest. The Gaels also received tries from Mike Wong of Barrie, Ont. and Henry McQueen of Vancouver which was enough to topple the Badgers.
Western Mustangs @ McMaster Marauders
After scoring 14 points to McMaster’s eight, the league leading Western Mustangs tainted Mac’s near perfect record today on Back 10 Field in their final conference game of the season.
The Mustangs finish the conference season on top of the OUA standings with 38 points from their perfect 8-0 record. The Marauders finish in second at 6-1-1 for 32 points.
Second year economics student Tyler Ardron (Lakefield, Ont.) scored his eighth try of the season for Mac while rookie Andrew Ferguson (Mississauga, Ont.) added three points off a penalty goal.
The eight tries ranks Ardron first in the province alongside of Rory Tomlinson (Alliston, Ont.) of Western and Richard Lebel (Waterloo, Ont.) of Waterloo. Ferguson finishes the season as the top scorer on the McMaster squad with 51 points off three tries, 12 conversions and four penalty goals.
For Western, Marcel Rethore (Toronto), and Conor Trainor (Alliston, Ont.) both scored a try apiece while Tom Bridger (Victoria, B.C.) mounted two points off two conversions.
Guelph Gryphons @ Toronto Varsity Blues
The men’s rugby team defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 24-10 on Saturday at Toronto’s Scarborough Campus.
With the win the Gryphons finish their 2010 regular season campaign with a 3-4-1 record and in sixth and earn a spot in the post season.
In the contest, the Gryphons took an early 10-0 lead but the Blues battled back with a try and a penalty goal and convert to tie the game 10-10 at the half. Toronto struggled to capitalize early in the second half and Guelph finally took advantage, scoring two tries in the final 20 minutes to earn the 14-point victory.
Thomas Sobotka led the Gryphons with one try and two converts, while Nathan Lippert, Robin White, and Mark Dinsmore scored a try each in the win.
