NIPISSING MOVING UP THE RANKS IN OUA STANDINGS
The Lakers began the weekend by handing Queen's University (3-1-2) their first loss of the season in a 1-0 victory and followed that effort Sunday with another 1-0 shut-out victory over RMC (0-4-1). Rookie net minder Matt Likuski posted his second consecutive shut-out victory and the Lakers (4-2-0) are now in sole possession of second place in the OUA East division.
All four wins this season have been shutouts, while the two losses have come against CIS Top-10 ranked teams, Carleton and Toronto.
Eric Yung scored the games only goal as he blasted a shot while on a two-on-one break at the 19 minute mark and the Lakers defence and Likuski did the rest. The Golden Gaels had a handful of opportunities in the 18 yard box, but because of pressure from the defence or Likuski challenging the angles, balls were continuously booted wide.
"Our defence is always key," said Likuski. "I'm so proud of our defence - I think that's the heart of our team right now. When the ball comes into our box, they're all over it. I had a lot of action, but nothing was too tough."
Sunday, the Lakers' Mustafa Zafarzadeh (Peterborough, Ont.) scored the game's only goal at 70th minute in the 1-0 win over RMC.
The Lakers had possession for most of the match, but RMC keeper Sebastien Cote (Alma, QC) made several nice saves to keep the Lakers at bay until Zafarzadeh's shot from outside the 18 yard box seemed to fool Cote.

Haidar Al-Shaibani (London, Ont.) continued his solid play, earning his fourth and fifth shutouts of the season, as Western improved to 5-1 on the season. This past Saturday, Western's offence produced four goals in 17 minutes in the opening half, en route to a 5-0 victory over Windsor (3-2-1_.
Steve Meagher (Oakville, Ont.) opened the scoring just 12 minutes in for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Veteran Mustang striker Michel Daoust (Hunter River, PEI) added his first of two goals in the 13th minute before adding his second just six minutes later.
The three goals in nine minutes caught the Lancers off guard.
Paul Arnold (London, Ont.) made it 4-0 just ten minutes later before substitute Niko Mavrikos (Victoria, B.C.) twinkled the twine to give Western the 5-0 lead early in the second half.
