WINDSOR, NIPISSING, BROCK, QUEEN'S ADVANCE IN MEN'S SOCCER PLAYOFFS
Windsor 2, Laurier 0
Chris Gregg (Windsor, Ont.) scored just ten minutes in to the game to give the University of Windsor an early 1-0 lead over Wilfrid Laurier University. The game remained close until the 70th minute when Mike Collavino (Amherstburg, Ont.) scored the Lancers second goal, to give Windsor a commanding 2-0 lead. Dejo Olegagbi (Lagos) earned the shutout for Windsor, as he made three key saves late in the game to preserve the victory.
Nipissing 4, Laurentian 2
Alagie Gaye (Gambia) opened the scoring for Nipissing University 24 minutes in on a shot from just outside the 18 yard box. Laurentian University’s Mohammed Nyangado (Gambia) scored a nifty goal to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead six minutes later. But the Voyaguers responded when Tony Tagliafierro (Sudbury, Ont.) drove a ball under the crossbar at the 68 minute mark. Four minutes later Jan Egert (Westport, Ont.) was credited with a goal that deflected off of Nipissing defender. Nipissing persevered for the 4-2 win over their northern rivals to qualify for the quarter-finals this weekend.
Brock 2, Guelph 1
Brock University defeated the University of Guelph Gryphons by the score of 2-1 to open the 2007 playoffs. With the victory, the Badgers advance to the OUA West Semi-finals and will travel to London Saturday to take on the nationally ranked Western Mustangs.
Queen’s 2, Ryerson 1
The Queen's University Golden Gaels have advanced to the OUA East semifinals after a 2-1 win over the visiting Ryerson University Rams at Richardson Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Gaels scored three minutes into the game and added another in the 80th minute which turned out to be the winner. Mike Arnold (London, Ont.) scored the first goal, while Nick Milonas (Kingston, Ont.) added to the lead. The lone Ryerson goal was scored by Frank Morelli (Thornhill, Ont.).
