CARLETON FINISHES AS ONLY UNDEFEATED CIS SOCCER TEAM
Canada's number one ranked team, the Carleton University Ravens (13-0-1) finished off their unbeaten season with a 2-0 victory over Queen's University (6-4-4) at Richardson Stadium in Kingston, Ontario. The Ravens finish the 2007 OUA East regular season with 40 points at 13-0-1. Earlier in the season the Raven's only setback was a 1-1 tie with Queen's University.
The Ravens Abdullahi Abunafeesa (Ottawa, Ont.) scored both Carleton goals at the eighth and fiftieth minute marks bringing his tally to eight goals on the season. Veteran goalkeeper Karl Wasslen (Ottawa, Ont.) earned his eighth victory and fifth shutout of the 2007 season.
Golden Gaels keeper Sean Martin-Courtright (Calgary, AB) recorded four saves in the game. Carleton now plays host to a quarterfinal match-up next Saturday at home while the Gaels host a midweek playoff game this Wednesday.
McMaster 0, Brock 0
Brock University (6-4-4) hosted the McMaster University (1-10-3) in Saturday's soccer action as the Marauders were looking for their second win of the season and the Badgers wanted to secure a third place spot in the west over Laurier (6-5-3).
The two teams played to a 0-0 draw in what was a tight contest for the duration of the match. Marauder goalkeeper Richard Maggiolo (Niagara Falls, Ont.) kept the Badgers off the scoreboard to secure his second shutout of the season. Lee Wesselius (Bowmanville, Ont.), the Brock goalkeeper, also earned a shutout on the day.
The Marauders have not qualified for a playoff spot as they finished the season at the bottom of the west table, while Brock will host a midweek playoff game this Wednesday in order to qualify for the quarterfinals next Saturday, October 27.
