DEFENDING CHAMP MUSTANGS REGISTER THREE STRAIGHT SHUTOUTS
The York Lions and Ottawa Gee-Gees both won their two games by shutouts, as well. April Noga, Jodie Williams and Ashley DePalma scored first-half goals for York as they beat Nipissing Lakers 3-0 Saturday. York’s Jennifer Cisternino scored in the 64th minute for the only goal of the match as the Lions beat the Laurentian Lady Vees 1-0 Sunday. Ottawa defeated the Waterloo Warriors 1-0 Saturday on a goal by Krista Power and then shutout the Golden Hawks 2-0 Sunday. Jennifer Trowell and Laurie Hinks scored for the Gee-Gees.
The Ryerson Rams won their first match since 2001 when they defeated the McMaster Marauders 2-1 Saturday. Rookie midfielder Shannon Ferriera, a transfer from the University of Buffalo, scored both of the Ryerson goals in the emotional win. The Rams followed that up with a goalless draw with the Guelph Gryphons Sunday. A combination of a Ryerson win and a Guelph loss or draw next week would put the Rams in the playoffs.
The Carleton Ravens defeated the RMC Paladins 1-0 Saturday on a goal from Tara Currie in the 42nd minute. Carleton then rallied to earn a 2-2 draw with the unbeaten Queen’s Golden Gaels Sunday. Queen’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Laura Barker and Renee MacLellan but the Ravens responded with two second-half goals from Jennifer Chrichton and Kathyrn Chinkiwsky to draw even.
Laurentian started the weekend with a 1-0 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues. Brittney MacMillan scored in the 72nd minute for the Lady Vees. In other Saturday action, the Windsor Lancers beat Trent 2-1 and the Brock Badgers defeated the Gryphons 3-1. In Sunday’s other games, Toronto drew 0-0 with Nipissing, RMC beat Trent 2-0 and Brock rebounded from their loss Saturday with a 2-0 win over the Marauders. Stephanie DeBoer struck in the first half and Lori Brown added another goal minutes from injury time for the Badgers, who sit on top of the OUA’s South Division.
