CARLETON SCORES EIGHT IN WOMEN'S OPENER

The Carleton Ravens cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Trent Excalibur Saturday. Striker Melissa Knox led the way with two goals in the opening half, while Diana Burmester, Elizabeth Starnes, Nina Bigras, Shannon Persi, Amber Prosia and Tara Currie all scored. Already up 5-0 at the hour-mark of the match, Persi, Prosia and Currie added three goals in a three-minute span in the latter part of the second half to finish off the game. Bowmanville, ON native Angela Penfound had the shutout in goal.
RMC 1 Windsor 1
The Royal Military College Paladins and Windsor Lancers drew 1-1 Saturday afternoon. First-year Windsor midfielder Alissa Mazar opened the scoring in the first half. But midfielder Melanie Ross, from Cochrane, AB, responded to send the Paladins into half-time tied. Neither team was able to find the net in the second half.
Toronto 2 Laurentian 1
Rosanna Dalimonte and Erin Osborne each scored first-half goals as the Toronto Varsity Blues traveled to Laurentian and defeated the host Voyageurs 2-1. Dalimonte, a first-year midfielder from Richmond Hill, ON, opened the scoring in the 32nd-minute and Osborne followed up 15 minutes later to give Toronto a 2-1 lead.
Laurentian’s Brittany MacMillan responded with a strike immediately after Osborne’s goal but the Voyageurs couldn’t complete the comeback.
York 3 Nipissing 1
Scarborough, ON native Nicole Burling scored twice as the York Lions beat the Nipissing Lakers 3-1 Saturday at Education Centre Field. Nipissing held a 1-0 lead at the half on a goal by Amanda Carvalho but Burling struck twice in the second half to give York a 2-1 lead. April Noga had the other goal for York.
McMaster 1 Brock 0
The McMaster Marauders opened up the season with a 1-0 win over the Brock Badgers at Brock Fields Saturday afternoon. McMaster midfielder Alison Worosz, a fourth-year kinesiology student from Brantford, scored the only goal of the match early in the first half. Kristina Lavoie earned the clean sheet in the Marauders’ net.
Guelph 1 Ryerson 0
The Guelph Gryphons opened up their women’s soccer season with a 1-0 win over the Ryerson Rams at De La Salle College Saturday. Second-year midfielder Brooke Johnson, from Oakville, ON, scored the game’s only goal late in the first half. Katie Stross was in goal for Guelph, earning her first shutout of the new season.

Waterloo 3 Laurier 1
Nuala Marshall scored twice as the Waterloo Warriors beat the cross-town rival Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 3-1 at Columbia Lake Ice Fields Sunday. Marshall opened the scoring with a goal in the 20th minute of the first half. Catharine Nutt responded for Waterloo to tie the game 1-1 early in the second half but Marshall notched her second of the day, which proved to be the decisive goal, 20 minutes later. Laura Malinowski added another for the Warriors.
Western 6 RMC 0
The Western Mustangs received a stunning performance from striker Jessica Van Dyk as they dominated the RMC Paladins 6-0 Sunday at Brescia Fields. Van Dyk was held scoreless in Western’s 1-0 opening day win on Saturday but she erupted for four goals against RMC. Andrea Szewczuk and Christina Bonasia had the Mustangs’ other two goals in the route.
Queen’s 6 Windsor 0
Eilish McConville, a striker from Ottawa, ON, scored five of Queen’s six goals as the Golden Gaels notched an impressive 6-0 road win against the Windsor Lancers Sunday. McConville, who played for the Ottawa Fury this summer, scored four of the goals in the first half before bagging another in the second. Kaley Robinson had the other goal for the victorious Golden Gaels.
Ottawa 3 Trent 0
The Ottawa Gee-Gees received two goals from Courtney Luscombe as they downed the Trent Excalibur 3-0 Sunday. Valerie May scored the only goal that the Gee-Gees when need when she found the back of the net at the five-minute mark of the game. Luscombe scored in the 27th minute and then again in the 65th minute to ice the game for Ottawa.
Laurentian 2 York 2
The Laurentian Voyageurs got a late strike from Cara Smith in the 84th minute to earn a 2-2 draw with the York Lions at the LU Soccer Fields Sunday. York built a 2-0 first-half lead on goals from Tania Porretts and Nicole Burling, who scored twice in the Lions’ opener. But Jenna Roach brought the Voyageurs to within one with a goal in the 68th minute before Smith capped off the comeback with full-time approaching.
Nipissing 2 Toronto 2
Bernadetta Dec scored a late goal to give the Nipissing Lakers a 2-2 draw with Toronto Varsity Blues Sunday. With Toronto up 2-1 late in the game, Dec scored in the 85th minute to get the Lakers an important point. Stephanie Muldoon had opened the scoring for Nipissing in the 57th minute but Toronto’s Lindsay Lashley scored two goals in two minutes to give the Blues a 2-1 lead only minutes before Dec’s eventual equalizer.
McMaster 2 Ryerson 0
The McMaster Marauders got their second clean sheet of the weekend in a 2-0 win over the Ryerson Rams at the Back 10 Field Sunday afternoon. Striker Laura Shoots bagged the decisive goal in the opening minutes of the match, while midfielder Emily Sidsworth struck again at the nine-minute mark to complete the scoring.
Brock 1 Guelph 0
The Brock Badgers picked up their first win of the season on the road with a 1-0 victory over the Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Stadium Sunday. Laurie Brown had the only goal of the game when she scored at the three-minute mark. Goalkeeper Tiffany Scriver recorded the shutout in the Brock net.
