WOMENS SOCCER GAME DEEMED ILLEGAL
York University was in violation of Rule 6.1 of the OUA Women's Soccer Rules and Regulations that state "players eligible to play in any game must be declared prior to that game and entered on the game score sheet." Ms. Nicole Burling, who scored two goals in the contest, was not listed on the official game sheet prior to the game. Upon completion of the match, the official, who is responsible for completing the score sheet, identified the error to both head coaches.
While Ms. Burling does meet all CIS/OUA eligibility requirements and is eligible to compete in OUA women's soccer, the matter was specific to the game sheet not declaring the complete list of players available for participation. Thus, the game in which York defeated Nipissing 3-1 has been deemed illegal, resulting in a default by York University. As the non-offending team, Nipissing will receive the three points normally awarded to the winner. The official score recorded will be the minimum winning score for a soccer competition (1-0). All individual statistics from the game will remain valid.
York University has decided to appeal the decision. The matter will now be sent to the OUA Appeals Committee for review.
