MCMANUS TAKES REINS OF MAC WOMEN'S SOCCER
HAMILTON - McMaster University has hired Tom McManus to coach the McMaster women's soccer team.
McManus takes over from Lydia Vamos who left her women's head soccer coach and Sport Co-ordinator role at McMaster University to pursue other interests.
Tom holds an \"A\" Licence in both Canada and Scotland. He has coached at the professional (Toronto Inferno 2004; Vancouver Angels 2000; Winnipeg Fury 1991, 1992), national (National Team Assistant Coach 1991-1994; National Training Centre East Coach 1990-1991) and university level (McMaster University 1983-1986, 1990; University of Saskatchewan 1991).
McManus has also served as the director and head coach of five organizations across North America (Kamloops City Blaze - British Columbia 2005; North Shore Soccer Training Centre - British Columbia 1997-2000; State of Minnesota Director of Coaching and Player Development 1996-1997), Manitoba Soccer Association 1992-1994; Saskatchewan Soccer Association 1986-1990.
McMaster, Director of Athletics and Recreation, Therese Quigley commented that \"We welcome Tom back to McMaster University. Tom's coaching knowledge and experience is outstanding. He is a players' coach and knows McMaster very well.\"
\"I am very happy to be returning to McMaster University,\" said McManus. \"I have lived most of my life in Hamilton and I am looking forward to coming back to be close to my family and friends. My father was my inspiration in coaching and he taught me to always take care of the players and to never do a job half way, that a job worth doing is worth doing right.\"
McMaster University will open the new Alumni Field, complete with an artificial soft surface with a full-size soccer field in mid May. McMaster will open the Ronald V. Joyce Stadium in the spring of 2007. The new stadium will feature an artificial soft surface that will be the new home of McMaster soccer.
