MAY NETS HAT-TRICK FOR OTTAWA
York finished strong with a 3-0 defeat over their rival the Toronto Varsity Blues Sunday. Kyla Jones scored twice for York, while Nicole Burling was credited with the winning strike in the 14th minute.
The Carleton Ravens defeated the Lancers 4-0 Saturday. Katie Chinkiwsky, Natalie Griffith, Diana Burmester and Emily Watt all scored for the Ravens. Anglea Penfound recorded her fifth shut-out of the season. Carleton also beat the 2004 champion Western Mustangs 2-1 Sunday. Carmel Pringle gave Western a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute but Carleton’s Nina Bigras scored twice before half-time to give the Ravens the victory. Western defeated the Trent Excalibur 2-0 Saturday. Cristina Bonasia scored her seventh of the season, while Sarah Regan also scored for the Mustangs.
Elsewhere Saturday, the Laurentian Lady Vees beat the Nipissing Lakers 3-2, Waterloo and Queen’s drew 1-1, RMC defeated Laurier, 1-0, Brock got past Ryerson 2-1, while Guelph and McMaster tied 2-2. On Sunday, RMC shut-out Waterloo 2-0 and Queen’s won beat Laurier 1-0.Caitlin Lambert had the goal for the Golden Gaels.
First-round match-ups include Carleton facing Waterloo, Windsor playing Queen’s, Guelph traveling to Laurentian and Toronto meeting up with McMaster. Ottawa, Western and York all receive byes in the first round.
