The Trent Excalibur defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 20-9 in men’s rugby action Saturday in Toronto. First-year fly Jeff McDiarmid, fifth-year 8-man Joshua Connor and third-year flanker Harrison Snowdon each had tries for Trent, while Mike Simmons added a penalty goal and a conversion for the Exaclibur. Matt Duffin scored all nine of Toronto’s points on three penalty goals.
Western 40 Guelph 0
The Western Mustangs handed the Guelph Gryphons a 40-0 loss in Guelph Saturday as both teams opened the season. Western produced six tries, while Sam Jenkins added five conversions.
McMaster 79 Windsor 0
The powerful McMaster Marauders opened their men’s rugby campaign with a dominating 79-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers at Back 10 Field Saturday. Aaron Carpenter and Cameron Mitchell each had 15 points on three tries apiece. Huw Phillips produced two tries, while Spencer Fullerton chipped in 19 points on a try and seven conversions.
Waterloo 28 Laurier 15
The Waterloo Warriors defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 28-15 at Waterloo Collegiate Institute Field Saturday. Mike McCubbin, Paul Auzins, Andrew Reitzel, Kevin Lau and Jared Ehgoetz all had tries for the Warriors, while Adrian Lui added a penalty goal.
