USUAL SUSPECTS REMAIN UNDEFEATED
The McMaster Marauders and Queen’s Golden Gaels each upped their records to 6-0 last Friday with decisive wins to remain atop their respective divisions. McMaster had a little more trouble scoring than usual as they defeated the Guelph Gryphons 27-5 CIS scoring leader Spencer Fullerton had a conversion and a penalty goal for five points, while third-year fullback James Wood added a pair of tries to lead the Marauders. Alexander Sithole and Brandon Wade also had one try each. Matt Hendrie accounted for all of the Guelph scoring with a try, his fourth of the season. Queen’s, led by 13 points from Bryn Davies, dominated the Toronto Varsity Blues 58-0. Davies was good on four conversions and also added a try, while Josh Chambers, Justin Chang and Ramsey Ida all had two tries apiece for the unbeaten Golden Gaels. McMaster and Queen’s meet for the first time this season October 22 in Kingston.
The two teams right behind the Marauders and Golden Gaels managed to win their matches this past week. The Brock Badgers (4-2-0) kept a firm hold of second place in the East with a big 44-5 win over the RMC Paladins in Kingston. First-year 8-man Mark Macsween paced the Badgers with 10 points on two tries and Matt Wyles had nine more on a try and two conversions. Fullback Tyler gill had RMC’s only try of the match. The Western Mustangs stayed within a game of McMaster by defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks 25-14. Sam Jenkins, the fourth-ranked scorer in the country after just three matches, chipped in two conversions and two penalty goals for the Mustangs. Kevin Feheley, Jonathan Church and Pat Bakker also added tries in the Western victory.
In other action, the Carleton Ravens improved to .500 with a 10-5 win over the Trent Excalibur. Ryan McKay had a try for Carleton and Luke Sedgwick added the conversion and a penalty goal in the low-scoring match. Third-year wing Chris Godwin had a try for Trent. Jared Ehgoetz had two tries to help the Waterloo Warriors defeat the Windsor Lancers 27-10 Friday. Andrew Reitzel, Paul Auzins and Taylor Nichols each contributed tries for the Warriors, while Graham Haig and Jeff Theriault accounted for the 10 Windsor points on a try apiece.
