GEE-GEES, MCCONVILLE AND BATTEN SHOW GOAL SCORING TOUCH
McConville erupted in the two Queen's matches following the loss to Ottawa. The fourth-year striker scored twice in a 4-1 win over the Laurentian Lady Vees Saturday and then exploded for four goals in a 6-2 thrashing of Nipissing. Kaley Robinson added a pair in the Laurentian match. At 6-1-1, the Gaels are just one point behind the Gee-Gees in the East, with Carleton close behind in third at 16 points.
The Ravens didn't allow a goal in their two outings this week, drawing 0-0 with Toronto Friday before producing a solid 2-0 win over Ryerson on second-half goals from Sarah Marcantonio and Amber Prosia. Angela Penfound was in net for both Ravens clean sheets.
The West-leading Laurier Golden Hawks picked up six points from a pair of 2-1 wins over Guelph and Waterloo Wednesday and Friday but they were halted Sunday at McMaster, as the Marauders received a hat-trick from Samantha Batten and a clean sheet from keeper Amy Holt in a 3-0 victory. The trick brings the first-year striker's season tally to six goals in eight matches. At 4-0-4 with 16 points, McMaster is the only remaining undefeated team in the OUA other than Ottawa.
Elsewhere around the league, Ryerson defeated Trent 3-1 Wednesday, Nipissing scored three late goals to rally past RMC 4-2 Saturday, Western blanked the Windsor Lancers 5-0 Saturday with Kate Crowley scoring a pair, while Brock and McMaster drew 1-1 Saturday. In Sunday action, Laurentian improved to 3-2-4 with a 3-0 win over RMC and the defending OUA champion York Lions won their only match of the week as Nicole Burling and Ashley DePalma had first-half strikes in a 2-0 victory over Guelph. Fourth-year keeper Aurelia Gumiela recorded her fourth clean sheet of the campaign for the Lions.
