QUEEN'S LEAD EAST BUT OTTAWA REMAINS ONLY UNDEFEATED IN OUA
Queen's 1, Ottawa 1
The Golden Gaels and Gee-Gees closed out the week in style with an entertaining 1-1 draw in the nation's capital. The two teams with the best records in the OUA played out to a tie, keeping Ottawa without a loss at 7-0-5 on the season, while Queen's improves to 9-1-2, leading all teams with 29 points. Fourth-year forward Eilish McConville (Ottawa) scored her league-leading 14th goal of the season at the 29-minute mark, which many thought would prove to be enough for the win. The Gee-Gees pressed in the closing minutes and were rewarded with a tying goal by third-year striker Sarah D'Apollonia (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia).
Queen's 2, Carleton 0
Second-year defender Katie Dalziel (Stoney Creek, Ontario) scored her third goal of the 2006 campaign just two minutes into the match, which was enough for the Golden Gaels to win. Caitlin Lambert (Calgary) also scored her third marker of the season, at 34:00 to give Queen's the comfort it needed heading into the second half. Oakville native Katie McKenna earned her sixth shutout of the season.
Carleton 0, Ottawa 0
Carleton 4, Royal Military 1
The Ravens earned a point from the Gee-Gees to open the week and later produced three points in the standings with a convincing win over the Paladins. Second-year forward Jennifer Crichton (Manotick, Ontario) opened the scoring at the 19th minute with her first goal of the season and fourth-year forward Sarah Marcantonio (Ottawa) increased the lead just six minutes later with her fourth goal of the campaign. Just two minutes following the second Ravens goal, Amelie Clot (Gatineau, Quebec) got Royal Military on the scoreboard. Just before halftime, Amber Prosia found the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season, ranking the Hamilton native third among goal scorers in the OUA. The Ravens closed the scoring during the first minute of the second half on a boot from veteran defender Laura Mancuso (Oakville).
Brock 1, McMaster 0
The Badgers gave McMaster its first loss of the season. Both teams worked hard to find the back of the net but were unsuccessful until a blast from third-year striker Stefanie Deboer (Burlington) at the 84-minute mark bolstered Brock ahead.
Western Ontario 1, Windsor 0
The OUA West standings tightened up after combining McMaster's loss to Brock with the Mustangs 1-0 victory over the Lancers at Windsor Stadium. Western Ontario got a goal from midfielder Julie Beynon, her fifth of the season, at the 15-minute mark. The second year Social Science major from Ottawa is one of just 10 players in the OUA to have scored five or more goals this season.
In other games, Toronto dominated Trent 5-0, drew Nipissing 1-1 and played to a scoreless draw against Laurentian; Ryerson and Laurentian tied 1-1; York and Waterloo drew 0-0; Ottawa defeated Trent 1-0; Ryerson edged Nipissing 3-2 and Royal Military earned a 0-0 tie with Trent.
