RAVENS EARN FULL POINTS FROM A PAIR OF WINS
With Queen's and Ottawa ranked one-two in the East, the Carleton Ravens were the only side to pick up full points as they defeated Laurentian 2-1 Saturday and Nipissing 2-0 the following day. Kayla Wood and Melissa Knox staked the Ravens to a 2-0 lead within 10 minutes against the Lady Vees, before Katelyn Larue got one back for the visitors. Knox also got the winning goal against the Lakers, scoring her fourth of the campaign in the 21st minute before teammate Amber Prosia sealed the win five minutes later. Carleton now has 27 points - two behind Ottawa and four behind Queen's - with a game in hand.
The West is up for grabs entering the final week of regular season play, with the McMaster Marauders holding a slim lead in the standings. McMaster got into trouble early this weekend as Windsor's Michelle Novakovich scored the lone goal of the match in the Lancers' 1-0 win at McMaster Saturday. Heather Ireland had the clean sheet for the visitors. The Marauders were in the driver's seat against division rival Western the following day as rookie Samantha Batten scored her eighth of the year to build a 1-0 lead but Jessica Herman struck in the second half to secure an important point for the Mustangs, who are second in the West at 20 points, one behind Mac with a game hand. Western began the week with a 0-0 draw with the Brock Badgers Saturday. Brock also drew the Windsor Lancers 0-0 Sunday and are now tied with the Mustangs in the West standings.
The Laurier Golden Hawks struggled to keep pace getting just one point from two matches this week. The Hawks tied the Waterloo Warriors 0-0 Wednesday but dropped a big 3-0 decision to the York Lions Sunday. Nicole Burling opened the scoring for the Lions and April Noga tallied twice more. Aurelea Gumiela had the clean sheet in the York net.
Tara Madigan and Mary Capron each had goals as the Trent Excalibur secured their first win of the season in a 2-0 victory over the RMC Paladins in Kingston Wednesday. Saraj Asbreuk had the shutout.
York and Guelph battled to a goalless draw Thursday. Ryerson got goals from Stefanie Webster and Tessa Dmitrakapoulos in a 2-1 win over RMC Saturday, the Rams' fifth victory of the year. Waterloo blanked Guelph 3-0 Sunday.
