Exume, Rush and Wamsley named OUA football players of the week
OFFENCE: Kyle Exume, York Lions, Running Back
York running back Kyle Exume (Whitby, Ont.) had the highest single-game rushing total in the CIS this season, accounting for 180 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the Lions’ 47-36 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday. His first score came on the first play of the second quarter, a six-yard run to make the score 21-14 for Ottawa. He tied the game five-and-a-half minutes later when he exploded through the line and up the sideline for an 85-yard touchdown, and he added his third early in the fourth on an eight-yard rush to cap a 12-play, 107-yard drive that gave the Lions a 40-28 lead. In total, he contributed over 200 yards of offence, adding 25 receiving yards to his rushing total, and he also helped on special teams with two tackles.
DEFENCE: John Rush, Guelph Gryphons, Linebacker
John Rush was rock solid for the Guelph Gryphons this weekend as they stunned the host No. 7 Windsor Lancers 28-9. Rush collected nine tackles, eight solo, in a dominant team and individual defensive performance. The middle linebacker, from Niagara Falls, Ont. was the top performer on a defence that held last week's CIS offensive player of the week, Austin Kennedy, to just 244 yards passing with no scores, and the Lancers as a whole to 111 yards rushing and only three field goals.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Dillon Wamsley, Queen's Gaels, Kicker
Dillon Wamsley (London, Ont.) built on his outstanding season-opening game, as he went 4-for-4 on field goals, and scored 16 of the Gaels’ 42 points on Saturday night. The rookie kicker averaged 44 yards on eight punts, 12 yards longer than his counterpart, giving the Gaels a consistent edge in the field position all night. Wamsley is the OUA special teams player of the week for the second week in a row.
