Androschuk and Zeeman named Pioneer Energy OUA athletes of the week

MALE: Zach Androschuk, Guelph Gryphons, Football
Zach Androschuk, a fifth-year Biomedical Sciences student from Sarnia, Ont. was named the Porter Airlines player of the game helping the Gryphons to a 42-39 semifinal victory over the Queens Gaels. The 6-foot-1, 195 pound defensive back tallied two solo tackles, three assisted tackles, one interception and one fumble return for a touchdown. The team captain put the first points on the board for the Gryphons, after pinning the Gaels offence deep, Androschuk and John Rush stripped the ball from Queens quarterback Billy McPhee on a quarterback sneak. Androschuk scooped up the ball and carried it uncontested for 26 yards into the endzone. With three minutes left in the game and the Gaels leading 36-28 Androschuk stepped in front of a McPhee pass to regain the Gryphons possession, setting up the next play to tie the game, sending it to overtime.
FEMALE: Carling Zeeman, Laurentian Voyageurs, Rowing
Carling Zeeman, a fifth-year Outdoor Adventure Leadership student, continued her dominant 2012 season at the Canadian University Rowing Championships this past weekend. In the women’s Heavyweight Single, Zeeman got out in front and cruised to victory, winning the finals by 17 seconds to defend her National Championship title. Zeeman is back on the water this week when she heads to Victoria, B.C. to compete in the RBC National Rowing Championships.
