McMaster's Quinlan, Ventresca and Gary earn OUA football player of the week honours
Offense, Kyle Quinlan, McMaster Marauders, Quarterback
Quarterback Kyle Quinlan (South Woodslee, ON) had a sensational gameas he led the McMaster Marauders to a 45-6 victory over the Calgary Dinos in the CIS Mitchell Bowl, advancing the Marauders to the 48th Vanier Cup game. The 5th-year pivot completed 25 of 35 passes (71% completion rate) for 412 yards and three touchdown tosses, while rushing 11 times for 50 yards (4.5 yard avg) and scoring three touchdowns. His six all-purpose touchdown performance set a new CIS playoff record and he was named the Outstanding Player of the Mitchell Bowl.
Defense, Steve Ventresca, McMaster Marauders, Cornerback
On a defensive unit that had several stars in the Mitchell Bowl victory, Marauder cornerback Steve Ventresca (Hamilton, ON) may have shone the brightest. The third-year veteran had nine solo tackles and two pass break-up, while supplying blanket coverage on the Calgary receiving corps. Coach Stefan Ptaszek commented that he had a fantastic game and it seemed like he was all over the field making plays.
Special Teams, Trevor Gary, McMaster Marauders, Coverage
Playing with wild abandon, Trevor Gary (Mississauga, ON) is the McMaster nominee for special teams player of the week. Leading the Marauder kick coverage team, Gary had two solo tackles and was the key player disrupting the Dino return team and not allowing Calgary to gain field position on change of possession.
