Quinlan, Mutabola and Crapigna named OUA football players of the week
OFFENCE: Kyle Quinlan, McMaster Marauders, Quarterback
Kyle Quinlan was a key factor in keeping the McMaster Marauders undefeated, leading his team to a 33-20 victory over the No. 5 Queen's Gaels. The fifth-year pivot completed 25 of 36 passes (69% completion rate) for 340 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. The South Woodslee, Ont. native carried the ball eight times for 76 yards and a touchdown along the ground. Quinlan's effort against the Gaels moved him up on the McMaster all-time records list. He is now ranked second in career completions, attempts, touchdown passes and passing yards. The McMaster Marauders sit 4-0 on the season, in sole possession of first place in OUA.
DEFENCE: Harold Mutabola, Western Mustangs, Defensive back
Harold Mutabola had his best game of the season on Saturday against the Windsor Lancers. The Toronto native led the Mustangs with seven tackles, two knockdowns and a 68-yard interception return that sealed the win for Western.
"Harold had an outstanding game, he was all over the field making tackles and knockdowns and he had a big interception for us," said head coach Greg Marshall. "It was one of the best games from a defensive back that we've seen in a long time."
SPECIAL TEAMS: Tyler Crapigna, McMaster Marauders, Kicker
Tyler Crapigna (Nepean, Ont.) had an outstanding game in McMaster's 33-20 win over Queen's. The third-year kicker was perfect on all four field goal attempts from 31, 21, 40 and 45 yards. He averaged 38.3 yards per punt on 10 punts and put four punts out of bounds inside the Queen's 20-yard line. On three kickoffs, Crapigna averaged an impressive 64.3 yards per kick, keeping Queen's pinned deep in their own territory. He also completed one pass out of punt formation for eight yards, and a first down to keep McMaster's drive alive.
