Marauders sweep OUA football player of the week awards
OFFENCE: Kyle Quinlan, McMaster Marauders, Quarterback
Quarterback Kyle Quinlan (South Woodslee, Ont.) generated over 300 yards of total offence on his own as he led the McMaster Marauders to a 30-13 victory in the 105th Yates Cup. The fifth-year pivot did damage with both his arm and his legs, completing 16 of 20 passes (80% completion rate) for 265 yards and two touchdown tosses, while rushing 11 times for 70 yards.
DEFENCE: Shane Beaton, McMaster Marauders, Linebacker
Linebacker Shane Beaton (Brampton, Ont.) led a ferocious McMaster defence that controlled the Guelph Gryphons en route to winning McMaster’s sixth Yates Cup title. The fifth-year veteran had 10 solo tackles, including three tackles for a loss and one pass knockdown as he was all over the field for the Marauders. Beaton was recognized for his efforts with the Dalt White Trophy as the MVP of the Yates Cup game.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Tyler Crapigna, McMaster Marauders, Kicker
Tyler Crapigna (Nepean, Ont.) had another consistent outing in McMaster’s 30-13 Yates Cup win over Guelph. The third-year kicker nailed his only field goal attempt from 20 yards and added three converts for a perfect day on placements. He averaged 31.3 yards/punt on nine punts, putting three out of bounds inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Crapigna also averaged an outstanding 63-yards per kick on three kickoffs, forcing the Guelph return team to start from deep in its own end.
