Uren, Wiggans and Patrician named OUA football players of the week
OFFENCE: Matt Uren, Western Mustangs, Receiver
Matt Uren, a second-year receiver from London, Ontario, caught four touchdown passes in Saturday’s 56-35 win over the Windsor Lancers in the OUA quarter-finals. The four touchdown receptions in a single game is a new OUA playoff record and is one short of the CIS playoff record of five. In total, the Health Sciences student racked up 403 yards, catching eight passes for 166 yards, running the ball three times for 40 yards, returning six punts for 135 yards and adding three kickoff returns for 62 yards.
DEFENCE: Derek Wiggan, Queen's Gaels, Lineman
Derek Wiggan led a Gaels defence that completely stifled the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday in the OUA quarter-final. The Toronto native made 4.5 tackles, three for losses as the Gaels held Laurier to only 179 total yards and completely shut the Golden Hawks off the scoreboard. The third-year lineman led the Gaels with two sacks in the 34-0 win.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Chris Patrician, Queen's Gaels, Punt returner
Chris Patrician (Toronto) ran a punt back 94 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of the No. 6-ranked Gaels’ 34-0 win over Laurier on Saturday. The return was the second-longest punt return touchdown in school history. All told, the fourth-year punt returner ran back nine punts for 140 yards, on his way to a team-high 157 all-purpose yards.
