OUA FOOTBALL RECORDS CHASE
HAMILTON, Ont. – With only two games left in the 2012 regular season, the OUA reflects back on new football records set through the first six weeks of action and who to keep your eyes on as the season winds down.
SCORING
Most Field Goals in a Career: Ottawa’s Matthew Falvo (Welland, Ont.) currently sits at number two on the list with 69. Falvo needs to make just one field goal over the next two weeks to tie the record of 70 currently held by Western’s Frank Jagas.
Most Points in a Career: Falvo currently holds the third spot in the OUA record book in career scoring with 340, and it appears to be a long-shot that he will move into second place before the end of his career in two weeks. Jagas sits in second with 392 points.
RECEIVING
Most Receptions in a Season: Fifth-year Windsor Lancers receiver Jordan Brescacin (Tecumseh, Ont.) heads into week seven of the OUA season with 49 catches, just 14 behind the OUA record. It would take a strong performance in the Lancers’ week seven contest to equal the record, but the potential is there to pass the milestone in the final regular season contest. Close behind is McMaster’s Robert Babic (Oakville, Ont.) who sits with 42 receptions through six games.
Most Receptions in a Career: Brescacin’s 173 career receptions currently puts him fourth all-time, five behind former Windsor Lancer Arjei Franklin for third, and 16 catches from the current record of 189 held by Andy Fantuz.
Most Receiving Yards in a Season: Brescacin currently sits with 757 receiving yards through six contests, which leaves him on the outside looking in at the top-15 single season marks in OUA history. He need 103 yards over the next two weeks to crack that list, but with a couple of outstanding weeks Brescacin has the potential to crack the 1000-yard mark, which has only been done on seven other occasions.
Most Receiving Yards in Career: 2614 yards has Brescacin in tenth position on the career yardage list. 69 more yards will move him into ninth spot and 256 yards over the next two games will reach eighth on the list.
Most Receiving Touchdowns in a Career: Brescacin has hauled in 21 touchdown passes thus far in his career, leaving him tied with several players including former Laurier and CFL star Andre Talbot for sixth. One score in the season’s final two weeks would put Brescacin alone in sixth, while two would move him into a logjam for fourth all-time.
PASSING
Highest Completion Percentage in a Season: Through six games in 2012 McMaster Marauder quarterback Kyle Quinlan (South Woodslee, Ont.) has completed 120 of 174 pass attempts, good enough for 69%. If he can maintain or improve on that percentage in the final two weeks of the season, Quinlan will finish with the highest single season completion percentage in OUA history, surpassing the 68.5% mark set in 1988 by Guelph’s Mike Shoemaker.
Most Career Touchdown Passes: Quinlan has thrown for 56 touchdown strikes already in his career, leaving him in a tie for ninth spot. Three more TD-passes will even him with former Marauders star Ben Chapdelaine. If he continues to throw for touchdowns at the pace he has so far this season, Quinlan has the potential to move into fifth on the all-time list.
DEFENCE
Most Sacks in a Season: A four-sack performance in week five of the season against the Western Mustangs gave McMaster defensive lineman Ben D’Aguilar (Hamilton, Ont.) the new OUA record for sacks in a season, passing the old mark of 9.5. D’Aguilar added one more in week six to bring his season total to 11.5 with two games remaining. Queen’s lineman Cory Dyer (Gananoque, Ont.) also reached the previous record total of 9.5. The final two weeks of the season will determine if Dyer can catch D’Aguilar to become the OUA single season sack leader.
