RAMS RIDE VANDENBURG TO THREE WINS ON THE WEEK
Before running into the Rams, Laurier began its week with a 3-0 home win over rival Waterloo in a tight three-game match. Jean-Paul Wilkerd and Peter Wigger had 10 kills apiece in the victory, while Brent Harris had 28 assists. Wilkerd led in the digs category, recording eight of Laurier’s 31 in the match.
York rebounded after the loss to first-place Ryerson by defeating the McMaster Marauders 3-2 at the Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton. Ryan Anderson had 16 kills for the Lions, while Paul Podstawka added 14 kills, helping York improve to 4-3 on the season. Rob Dyba had 10 digs for the Lions.
The Queen’s Golden Gaels remained firmly entrenched in second place with a pair of victories this week. Devon Miller had 36 assists for Queen’s, while Steve Willis had a match-high nine digs as Queen’s defeated Western 3-0. The Gaels had 36 kills in the match. Queen’s also beat the Windsor Lancers 3-2 Sunday.
The Toronto Varsity Blues are 5-2 after two straight 3-0 wins over Waterloo and Laurier. Toronto beat the Warriors 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20 Saturday, as Brendan Peel paced the Blues with 16 kills and 17 points. Peel had another 12 kills in the match with Waterloo Sunday, while James MacKay registered 24 assists.
Windsor beat the RMC Paladins 3-0 Saturday. RMC also lost 3-0 to Western the following day.
