WIGSTON HIRED AS GRYPHS MEN'S VOLLEYBALL COACH
Wigston has nine years of OUA coaching experience, serving as an assistant coach at Guelph for the past nine seasons (1998-2006). His resume also includes coaching the Under 21 Men in the Ontario Volleyball Association. Under Cal's leadership, the Guelph Gryphon Junior Men's Club team has captured four gold and two silver medals in eight years at the provincial championships. At the 2002 national championships, his team defeated Manitoba to capture the bronze medal. This NCCP Level II coach was voted Ontario Volleyball Coach of the Year in 2004.
\"We're excited to have Cal join our coaching staff,\" stated Director of Athletics Tom Kendall. "He already has a solid connection with our student-athletes and has the ability to contend for a playoff spot. He knows what it takes to be a champion."
The Gryphons have not advanced to OUA post season play since 2004.
Doug Dodd resigned as the Gryphons coach in April after 36 years of service. Under Dodd's reign, the Gryphons posted a 7-13 record in 2005-06.
In his spare time, Cal is a management consultant at Eagle's Flight in Guelph. Cal and his wife Sue have three children, Brady, Kaj and Emma.
