LONG-TIME GRYPHON COACH DODD RETIRES FROM U OF G
Dodd has been a valuable member of the Gryphon volleyball coaching staff since 1970 with the exception of a stint coaching with Gryphon basketball team from 1976-80. During Dodd's career, the Guelph volleyball program has been a consistently competitive team. As a result, Dodd was awarded OUA Coach of the Year honours four times during his career.
Dodd has full Level III with partial Level IV coaching qualifications in volleyball and is also a certified Level II basketball and baseball coach. Dedicated to the sport of volleyball, Dodd has been involved in a variety of university and provincial committees for player and coaching development, served as President of the CIAU Volleyball Coaches' Association and also spent several years as Chair of the OUA men's volleyball coaches. Dodd was also named the Scheduling Chairman and the Sport Convenor for men's volleyball and baseball.
During his 36 years with the Department of Athletics, Dodd was responsible for the development and administration of the on-campus recreation programs. Most recently, Dodd also contributed to the areas of Marketing and Alumni Development.
Dodd and his family have all contributed to varsity athletics. Dodd, himself, played basketball for the Saskatchewan Huskies. His wife, Holly, played for the Gryphon hockey team while his daughter, Jodi, played Marauder lacrosse and son, Jason, was a member of the Gryphon baseball and volleyball teams.
According to Tom Kendall, Director of Athletics, "Doug has given long and loyal service to the Department of Athletics here at the University of Guelph and will be missed not only because of his contribution to the department, but also because of his dedication to the Guelph Gryphon program."
