MCMASTER HANDS RYERSON ITS FIRST LOSS
Before losing to McMaster, the Rams recorded their ninth straight win of the year in a 3-1 victory over the Guelph Gryphons Saturday. Ryerson controlled the first two sets but Guelph replied with a 25-21 in the third to stay in the match. The Rams then took the fourth set 25-19. Greg Marszalek had 29 assists for the Rams, while Lukas Porosa added seven digs.
Peel had 16 kills as Toronto defeated the Gryphons 3-0 in a match that featured three tight sets Sunday. The Blues won the first set 25-21, with the final two both finishing 25-23. Rob Miller racked up 32 assists for Guelph, while Matt Peters had a team-high 10 digs.
The York Lions split a pair of games on the week, dropping a 3-1 match top the Queen’s Golden Gaels Saturday before defeating the RMC Paladins 3-0 the following day. Daniel McCrae led the Gaels with 16 kills, while Luke Lichty added 12 more. Ryan Anderson had a big night for the Lions with a match-high 18 kills. Brad Giradro and Reid Hall combined for all 40 of the York assists. Paul Podstawka proved to be difficult for RMC to handle in the three-set sweep, as he registered 16 kills. Anderson had three blocks for the Lions.
In other OUA action, Western defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-0 Thursday in London. Alexander Jerome had 12 kills for the Mustangs, while Christopher Mokry led the Mustangs with 14 digs. Windsor’s Dave Quinn had 13 kills.
