RAMS PREVAIL IN OUA CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH
It was the most anticipated match of the early OUA season and the Rams and Gaels did not disappoint. The hometeam Rams squeaked out a 3-2 (25-21, 17-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12) win to remain the only undefeated team in the conference. Veteran rightside hitter Ryan Vandenburg (Wooler, Ontario) posted a match-high 26 kills, while fourth-year setter Patrick Corriveau (Ottawa) had a solid day with 38 assists, six digs, one ace and one block. Third-year leftside hitter Luke Lichty (St. Catharines, Ontario) recorded a team-high 17 kills for Queen's, while teammate fourth-year rightside hitter Dan McCrae (Brampton, Ontario) had 16 kills. The teams were tied 21-21 in the opening set when the Rams took over by scoring four consecutive points for a 25-21 victory. In the second set, the Golden Gaels broke open a close affair with an 11-6 run en route to a 25-17 win. With the score tied 5-5 in the third set, Ryerson rattled off seven straight points behind the serving of Corriveau and cruised to a 25-16 win. Queen's looked to be in control in the fourth set, leading 21-17. However, the Rams posted five straight points to lead 22-21. Queen's would score four of the next six points, three on kills by third-year outside hitter Jeff DeMeza (Calgary), to force a fifth and deciding set. Ryerson led 8-5 at the midway mark of the deciding set. The Rams extended their lead to 11-6 before Queen's would respond with three straight points to close the gap to 11-9. A kill by fourth-year leftside hitter Roger Marszalek (Chatham, Ontario) and a Golden Gaels' error provided some breathing room for the Rams, who would hang on for a 15-12 win.
