NO.7 QUEEN'S MEETS MCMASTER IN OUA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The McMaster Marauders upset the Ryerson Rams 3-2 (25–17, 22–25, 22–25, 25 –21, 15–5) advancing to the OUA Championship this past Saturday. Ryan Hudson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) finished the game with a season high 29 assists. Paul Hrkal (Caledon East, Ontario) dominated up the middle with 11 kills in 14 attempts for a game high hitting percentage of 77 percent and five solo blocks. Ryan Vandenburg (Wooler, Ontario) finished the game with 22 kills in 50 attempts, while Oleh Kovalchuk (Illychiusk, Ukraine) had 14 kills. The Rams serving struggled as they recorded only three service aces on the night and made 19 service errors.
Queen’s 3 vs York 2- #1 East vs #5 East
The No.7 Queen’s Golden Gaels advanced to the OUA finals with a thrilling five set victory over the York Lions this past Saturday night. In the fifth and deciding set both teams were tied at 10, Queen’s made a substitution for Peter Galbraith (Kingston, Ontario) to serve. Galbraith came into the game with an ace and went on to serve the next four points to claim the victory. Leading the way for Queen's was Andrew Bridgeman (Niagara Falls, Ontario) with 20 kills, Jeff DeMeza (Calgary, Alberta) with 19 kills, 3 blocks and 3 aces, as well as Devon Miller (Barrie, Ontario) with 51 assists, 8 digs, and 7 blocks. With the win the Gaels will play McMaster in the OUA Final with both teams advancing to the CIS championships in Hamilton March 2-4.
