QUEEN'S AND RYERSON REMAIN ATOP OF THE OUA WITH VICTORIES
The No.8 Queen’s Golden Gaels (15 – 1) earned a 3 – 1 victory over a tough Western Mustangs (12 – 5) squad that had swept Ryerson a week earlier. The Golden Gaels were too much for the Mustangs, winning by set scores of 25 – 22, 25 – 27, 25 – 19 and 25 – 20. Junior Luke Lichty (St. Catharines, ON) led the way for Queen’s with 19 kills and eight digs while Dan McCrae (Brampton, ON) added 15 kills. Devon Miller (Barrie, ON) directed the offence for Queen’s recording 50 assists. An identical 3 – 1 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Sunday earned Queen’s sole possession of first place.
Ryerson 3, Toronto 0
No. 9 Ryerson (14-3) was seeking revenge against the Toronto Varsity Blues team (9-8) that ruined what had been a perfect season on November 30, 2006. Both teams came out strong and traded points as Ryerson looked to secure the first set 24 – 21. The Varsity Blues ripped three straight points but, Cameron Bartlett (Chatham, ON) stopped the rally and Ryan Vandenburg (Wooler, ON) put the set away. Vandenburg took over following the second technical timeout in the second and third sets for the eventual win. He finished the game with 15 kills, five aces and five digs.
