RYERSON AND MCMASTER GO TO FIVE THRILLER
The Ryerson Rams (12-2) were tested to the brink of defeat against the No.9 McMaster Marauders (10-4) but hung on for a five-set thriller against the visiting Marauders (25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 10-25, 15-10). Ryerson took the first two sets to put the division leaders in full control of the game. McMaster quickly battled back and took the game to a deciding fifth set, with Ryerson regaining their composure and clawing out a 15-10 win to take the match. Oleh Kovalchuck (Ivano-frankiusk, Ukraine) contributed 18 points with four service aces, while fourth year setter Patrick Corriveau (Ottawa, Ontario) had 30 assists for the winning side. McMaster was lead by Nathan Groenveld (Welland, Ontario) who had 17 points on the day. With the win, the Rams continue to lead the OUA with a 12-2 record only to see Queen’s not far behind with two games in hand.
RMC 3, Waterloo 2
RMC (1-12) endured a five-set marathon (20-25,21-25,25-22,25-21,15-8), after falling behind by two sets to defeat the Waterloo Warriors (2-12) 3-2 Saturday. In the fifth and deciding set, RMC sealed the win thanks to the firepower of Mathieu Lorrain (Ottawa, Ontario) who had 18 points on the day and veteran setter Jonathan Lucas (Ottawa, Ontario) who has 36 assists. For the Warriors, second-year outside hitter Tyler Vivian (Mitchell, Ontario) finished with 17 kills and rookie setter Andrew Thrope (Ingersoll, Ontario) had a game-high 44 assists in a losing effort.
