LIONS PREVAIL IN FIVE-SET MARATHON
The Lions survived a five-set marathon (25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 15-13), which included a comeback by the Warriors after they fell behind by two sets. In the fifth and deciding set, York sealed the win thanks to some resilient play, timely digs, and some tremendous firepower from veteran middle Ryan Anderson (Manitoulin Island, Ontario), who totalled 22 kills in the game. On match point, a Waterloo block sailed barely wide to conclude a competitive and hard-fought contest. For the Lions, second-year setter Reid Hall's 33 assists and third-year outside hitter Paul Podstawka's 11 kills, along with Anderson's contributions, highlighted a solid team effort. Anderson (No. 2) and Podstawka (No. 4) solidified their spots among the OUA's top five scoring leaders with their combined 46 points. For the Warriors, second-year outside hitter Tyler Vivian (Mitchell, Ontario) finished with 13 kills and rookie setter Andrew Thorpe (Ingersoll, Ontario) had a game-high 35 assists in a losing effort.
