York Lions @ RMC Paladins
Rookie outside hitter Ray Szeto and third-year middle Felipe Humana-Paredes combined for 32 points and led the York University Lions men’s volleyball team to their first win of the season Saturday (Nov. 13), a 3-1 victory over the Royal Military College Paladins.
Szeto (Sutton, Ont.) put on an incredible display of power in the match, scoring all 19 of his points on kills. Humana-Paredes (Toronto) was also strong at the net, recording five kills and six blocks as part of his 13-point performance.
Rookie Nikola Sandic (Etobicoke, Ont.) was a force on defence for the Lions, recording 11 digs.
Third-year outside hitter and team captain Karim Khalil(Mississauga, Ont.) continued his strong play this season with a 10-point performance that included six kills and two blocks.
The Lions (1-6) needed four sets to takedown the winless Paladins (0-6), which they did in convincing fashion 25-17, 15-25, 25-14 and 25-19.
After the Lions dominated the first set and appeared to have the match under control, the Paladins fought back and won the second set convincingly, proving that they were not going to roll over. Both teams were desperate for their first win of the season and neither wanted to go out without a fight.
It was the Lions, however, who proved to be the hungrier of the two teams. The Lions, showing a great deal of poise after a rough second set, dominated the third and fourth sets and cruised to victory.
Paul Demers (Manitowaning, Ont.) was the top offensive and defensive player for the Paladins, recording 16 points and nine digs. Demers is fifth in OUA league scoring with 87.5 points and an average of 4.10 points per game.

Laurier Golden Hawks @ Waterloo Warriors
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks improved their regular season record to 4-3 today after beating the Waterloo Warriors in three straight sets.
The men had to work hard for their win this afternoon as the Warriors would not give up without a fight. The Hawks won the first two sets by the close score of 25-22 and won a nail-biting third set by a score of 31-29. It is a big road win for the guys as they try to keep climbing the division ladder in which they currently sit four points behind Western for first place.
The top performances on the Golden Hawks today came from the middle man Matt Polley (Port Perry, Ont.) who hit for 12 kills out of 18 attempts and chipped in for four assisted blocks giving him a total contribution of 14 total points. Greg Houston (Chatham, Ont.) hit the ball extremely well, adding 10 kills, three digs and two total blocked shots while the team setter Erik Kroman (Etobicoke, Ont.) had to be pleased with his playing as he positioned the volleyball well for 35 assists.
For Waterloo, James Evans had 16 total points while Fiodar Kazhamiaka contributed 12.
Toronto Varsity Blues @ Windsor Lancers
The Lancer men’s volleyball team earned their third consecutive victory with a 3-1 (28-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-17) win over Toronto at home on Sunday.
The Lancer’s set the stage in the first set, taking an early 4-0 lead and only letting the Varsity Blues get 3 pts before taking the first technical. The Blues were unable to contend with the power of Ryan Le, who’s 8 kills helped take the Lancers to a 25-18 first set victory.
Set two saw a different picture as the Blues narrowly captured both technical time-outs and reached a 7 pt lead late in the set. Unable to close in, the Lancers lost the set 25-18.
Play tightened in the third set, with neither team being able to take more than a 2 pt lead. The set saw long, fast rallies with both teams working tirelessly to keep the ball in play. Two points away from the set point, a Harrison Oake ace serve put the Lancers within range to take it and forced a Blues timeout. Jimmy El-Turk finished it for the Lancers ending the set 25-23.
The Lancers took over again in set four holding over a 5 pt lead for a majority of the set. Windsor’s speed and hitting (Jimmy El-Turk 6 kills, Ryan Le and Kyle Williamson 4 kills each) was unmatched in the final set and allowed them an easy trip to the 25-17 victory.
Kyle Williamson led the way with 18 kills, while Ryan Le contributed 16 kills, and Jimmy El-Turk and Harrison Oake each had 10 kills apiece. Defensive for Windsor, Drew Foster had a team high 15 digs.
