BADGERS WRESTLERS PLACE FIRST, SECOND AT BROCK OPEN
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's and women's wrestling team hosted the Brock Open this past weekend. The Brock women placed first overall, seven points ahead of Western. The men finished in second place, seven points behind Lakehead.
On the women's varsity side, Brock captured three gold which included Jasmine Mian (Barrie, Ont.) (51kg), Celeste Rodrigues (Sudbury, Ont.) (67kg) and Jocelyn Dresser (Tottenham , Ont.) (82kg). Laura Steffler (Whitby, Ont.) (67kg) placed second overall while Diana Ford (55kg) and Lee-Anna Taifiller (Sudbury, Ont.) (82kg) were both third in their respective weight classes.
Former Brock standout Jesse Bondy (Windsor, Ont.) also captured gold at 55kg.
On the men's varsity side, the Badgers won two weight classes with C.J. Hudson (Calgary, Alta.) (68kg) and Alex Brown-Theriault (Ottawa, Ont.) (82kg) winning their respective weight classes. Aaron Fabiano (Windsor, Ont.) (57kg), Brad Trimble (Essex, Ont.) (82kg) and Scott Hall (Orangeville, Ont.) (76kg) all placed second overall. Ryan Johnson (Cayuga, Ont.) (65kg) and Paul Rabjohn (Ajax, Ont.) 90kg both finished third overall.
Former Brock standout and 2004 Olympian Evan MacDonald (Ottawa, Ont.) captured gold at 72kg.
