THUNDERWOLVES TAKE MEN'S TITLE AT ONTARIO JUNIOR WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Ontario Junior Championships is a competition for young wrestlers from 18 to 19 years of age. Lakehead sent nine men and one women to the championships.
For the men, Lakehead's Tyson Frost defeated last year's CIS silver medalist to claim gold in the 96 kg weight class. Colten Woznow (Cardston, Alta.) also was golden at 84 kg as was Dustin Helwig (Toronto, Ont.) at 55 kg. Angelo Daniele (Thunder Bay, Ont.) took bronze at 60 kg. Scott Christian (Brampton, Ont.) placed fourth at 66 kg, as a back injury prevented him from taking part in the bronze medal match.
On the women's side, Lakehead's sole wrestler, sophomore Emma Brightwell (Guelph, Ont.), continued her excellent season and took gold at 82 kg. Freshman Aislynn Torfason (Winnipeg, Man.) was supposed to compete but was injured in practice the previous week.
