LAKEHEAD WRESTLER WINS SECOND STRAIGHT NATIONAL JUNIOR TITLE
Brightwell, the defending Canadian Junior champion at 82 kg, successfully defended her title Friday in Regina. The Wolves sophomore is this year's OUA champion and CIS silver medalist at 82 kg and also received the prestigious Canada Wrestling Bob McLeod Scholarship.
Freshman women's star Aislynn Torfason (Winnipeg, Man.) also had a great day, taking silver in the 59 kg weight class. On the men's side, freshman Tyson Frost took fourth at 96 kg.
The action will change to the seniors Saturday in Regina and Lakehead will have excellent representation there as well. Brightwell will move up to the senior class and compete again at 82 kg. OUA silver medalist Jessica Bershatsky (Watford, Ont.), who finished fourth in the CIS championship, will do battle at 48 kg.
On the men's side, OUA gold medalist Ben Eaglestone (Lake Echo, N.S.) will compete at 96 kg. OUA silver medalist Corey Lee (LaSalle, Ont.), who finished fourth in the CIS championship, will grapple at 84 kg.
