WALKER AND SAUDER HELP HAWKS TO A PAIR OF VICTORIES
Melissa Merilainen had a combined 29 kills to help lead the Lakehead Thunderwolves to a pair of wins over the RMC Paladins on the weekend. Merilainen, a Thunder Bay native, had 17 kills in Lakehead's 3-1 win over the Paladins Friday and added another 12 in a 3-0 victory the following day. In the first match, RMC took the third game of the match 25-18 but the Thunderwolves responded with a decisive 25-8 game to close things out.
Three York players had double-digit kills as the Lions defeated the Ryerson Rams 3-0 at the Kerr Hall Gym Wednesday. Elizabeth Salas Chavez, Andrea Leyte and Nicole Carleton-Burnham had 10 kills each in the three-game win. York came out strong with a 25-14 win in the opening game and also dominated the second 25-17. Ryerson made it close in the final game, won 25-21 by York. Erin Gallagher had a team-high 10 kills for the Rams, while Anjela Wilson had 15 digs.
Melissa Man had 12 kills and 16 digs, helping the Western Mustangs earn a 3-1 win over the Windsor Lancers Sunday. The Ottawa Gee-Gees gave up just 33 points in three games as they beat the visiting Guelph Gryphons 3-0. Ottawa won the first game of the match 25-5 and never allowed more than 15 points in the final two games.
