LANCERS KILL HOPE OF PERFECT SEASON FOR WESTERN
In the first set, the Lancers faced an impressive Western blocking unit and ended up losing 13-25. But the Lancers managed to overcome it, handing the Mustangs one of their most difficult games to date.
"We were pretty nervous coming into this game," Lancer setter Kelly Paolini said. "But then we realized it was just six girls on the other side of the net."
The Lancers decided to stick to a simplified offence and let the hitters do their job. Windsor got 17 kills from Bethany Petkoff, 14 from Caitlin Morrissey, eight each from Brianna Binder and Tina Bear, and seven from Andrea Eansor.
The fifth and deciding set could have gone either way, as the teams traded points back and forth. But the Lancers dug deep to grab the win, and move their record to 6-5.
The Mustang offence was led by Melissa Mann with 16 kills and Ashley Jones with 11 kills.
The Lancers will now head to Thunder Bay this weekend to face the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm. The game will be live video broadcast on the Lakehead website at www.thunderwolves.ca. Tune in and support your Windsor Lancers as they look to capture their third straight victory.
