STARS RETURN TO RAMS LINEUP
"I can't wait to see him playing," said head coach Mirek Porosa. Hauser will continue his university career in Ryerson's new general arts program. The six-foot-three Hauser is loved by Rams fans for his intensity on the court and tremendous 40 inch vertical jump.
"There aren't many athletes like Anton," said Porosa. "He's extremely competitive, he hates to lose, but he's also very team oriented. He's approachable and he helps the young players." Hauser will combine in the Rams starting line-up with six-foot-ten Ryan "Snake" Vandenburg to make the Rams an offensive juggernaut. Last season, Vandenburg led the nation with 4.72 kills per set.
"We hope to have the two best hitters in the OUA," said Porosa.
Also after a one-year absence, Ram Lukas Porosa will have the chance to resume setting the star hitters. The 22-year-old setter is son of Rams coach Mirek Porosa. He spent last season on the sidelines as an assistant coach with the Rams while he recovered from thumb surgery.
Lukas Porosa has won indoor and beach national youth championships. In 2000 at the Youth Olympics in Sydney, Australia he won the gold medal in beach volleyball for Canada. In 2002, he was named OUA Rookie of the Year. "He will be an instrumental impact player" said his coach/father. "He brings mental toughness and a drive for perfection."
After an impressive campaign last year, the Rams hope the return of Porosa and Hauser will bring a league championship to the school.
Hauser flirted with a return last season during the Christmas break, however, he played only from Jan. 2-4, 2004 during the York Excalibur tournament. In that event he dominated opposition blockers and led the Rams to wins over the Windsor Lancers, Regina Cougars, the Sherbrooke Vert et Or and the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to secure the championship. Hauser was named the tournament's most valuable player. "That tournament was the best I have seen him play," said Porosa.
Hauser, an accomplished beach volleyball player, exploded on to the Canadian indoor volleyball scene in 2001-02. That season he scored 4.13 kills per set, 4.89 points per set and 0.50 aces per set - all three were OUA highs. The following season he battled a thumb injury but still finished third in OUA points (4.70 per set) and kills (4.03 per set).
