QUEEN'S HANDS YORK THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON
The Golden Gaels upset the No. 8 ranked York Lions in a close five set match handing the Lions their first loss of the season (25-20, 22-25, 30-28, 22-25, 17-15). Queen's Justin Kitney tallied 17 kills while teammate, Daniel McCrae, added 13 kills in the surprise victory. Steve Willis led the Gaels in digs with 12 and Ryan McCraken led the team in blocked shots with 8. The Lions, Paul Podstawka, tallied a game high 18 kills helping to send this game to a fifth and deciding set which York lost 17-15. With the win, Queen's extends its undefeated streak at home this season to 8 games.
Ryerson 3, Windsor 0
The Windsor Lancers were hosts to the Ryerson Rams in an intense match-up this past weekend. The Lancers put up an honest effort but feel short to the Rams (25-18, 25-19, 25-18). Rams Ryan Vandenburg tallied 16 kills, 7 services aces, and 7 digs and a solo block. Nicloas Beaver followed closely behind and added 11 kills to his team's victory. The Lancers top performers were David Patterson and Stephan Sequin who tallied 5 kills a piece.
Western 3, Queen's 0
The Queen's Golden Gaels were looking to build on their surprise victory over the league leading York Lions but fell short in upsetting another topped ranked team loosing 3-0 to Western 25-15, 25-13, 25-20. Mustang, Peter Sidler led the team with 10 kills while Alexander Jerome added nine kills in the victory. Andrew Deryck tallied a game high 19 digs while teammate, Adam Dumond led the team in blocks with 5. Justin Kitney led the Golden Gaels with 12 kills, 6 digs, and 2 blocked shots but they could not overcome the tough Mustang squad. The Mustangs will look to continue their winning ways against Guelph on Wednesday night while Queen's travels to Ryerson.
Toronto 3, Waterloo 0
The Waterloo Warriors were host to the Varsity Blues this weekend but were defeated in three straight sets at home (26-24, 25-18, 25-10). Toronto was led by Brendan Peel who recorded 8 kills and 5 digs in the victory while teammate, Adrian Weglo, added seven kills. Waterloo's Brent Forrest and Taylor Hall led the team with 8 kills a piece but they could not overcome a close loss in the first set as Toronto dominated the last two sets of play.
